Default Why I am Over Test Match Cricket!!

Hi,

I love the cricket, and watching it yesterday I was excited we were going to see a great competitive test match.

At about 6-180, Symonds edged it and it was out (He was on 30). However, Umpire must be too old/def/blind to see that, or simply biased. He is now on 142, and the game is now so far out of reach for India, there is no point watching.

Ponting was also out in single figures when he edged it leg side.

Just a joke really

I like seeing Australia win for sure, but its just a lot better to watch when it is a closer and fairer game.

At now 7/388, they wont be out for under 450, where they should have been out for 250.

you win some and lose some with umpires. while i wish all players would walk when out, not many do. regarding umpires - we lost a series against the west indies, one against england (the ashes for the first time since 1989), and also probably the indian series over there in around 2002.
lets us not forget tendulkar cheated to run out glenn mcgrath at the mcg test in the series around 2002

What about the LBW from yesterday...... hit the bat before the pad, yet was given out.

Simple - you win some, you loose some.

slightly off topic - or a different time. i remember when justin langer (as a number 3) was given out cheaply he was always dudded. but when he should have been given out while in single figures, he would go on to a big score.

like most sports it's often a love-hate relationship and the things that frustrate us about the game are often the things that keep us watching; it makes things interesting. For instance i enjoy watching soccer/football, but the constant diving and acting gets up my goat. Australian soccer players are labelled as rough, aggressive and unrefined yet i see they play soccer how it was meant to be played for the most part. The world cup "dive" in the penalty area by the italians for instance had me vowing to never watch another soccer match again but i realised that was all part of the entertainment, the frustration, the passion etc...

it's been said, you take the good with the bad, you get some good decisions and then some bad decisions but it's just part of cricket and all sports really.

thus endeth the Sermon, sayeth the T-Bird

I think that a test match is the biggest waste of 5 days ever!

You may aswell have a 30 day cricket match - makes about as much sense! :

20/20 Matches are the way to go. :

test match cricket is like a one thousand kilometre race. it is not always the fastest or most talented that wins. it is mostly the smartest. with the smaller versions of the game, it is much easier to stay alert for the duration of the game. that is why they brought in 20/20 to international level - because australia is the only team capable of playing consistently for 50 overs, and certainly for 5 days. the only way they could beat us is with a game that doesn't necessarily need strategy or a never give up attitude

The umpire is human, so there might be the occasional lapse in judgement. People dont exactly commend them on the great decisions they make. It is easy to sit at home with a million camera angles and replays.

Rather than question the umpires, perhaps players should walk if they edge the ball. Lara and gilchrist come to mind.

As for 20-20, the less said the better. The occasional match is fine, but saturating the game with 20-20 will only dilute the skills.

I agree.

And it would be better for cricket if Captain Ricky would learn how to take the good with the bad and just walk off when the umpire gives him out.

It would certainly be more controversial.

I like the human element in cricket, its easy for us to sit back in our lounge chairs in a quiet room and see a slo-mo replay of the "nick" with the aid of microphones and "schnicko" and say its out, but go stand in the middle with 30 thousand screaming fans and players sledging and see if you can actually hear the nick.. the ball didnt deviate, so i think it was a 50/50 call, i bet even symonds didnt know if he hit it or not, you wont feel a slight nick through the bat, and with a helmet on it would be difficult to hear too, unfortunatly he got it wrong, but i can sympathise with the difficulty they face sometimes.

Take the good with the bad, how about everytime a bad decision gets you out, you could argue that he was going to go on and make 200. You win some you lose some, so much whinging takes the shine off some otherwise good cricket. I love test cricket.
20/20 is good fun, but not alot of skill, more luck.

Build a bridge in my view.

If you watch the tests over the years you see that decisions against players even's out. So like others are saying you take the good with the bad.

Symmonds actually came out at the press conference and said he hit it, so he must have known!!

This is an umpire of hundreds of tests, who practically never makes mistakes (Steve Buknor). The ball deviated about a foot after he hit it!!

OMG an umpire made a mistake, not the first time I hate to tell you. So what if Roy knew he hit it, the umpire didn't give him out so he wasn't out. Simple really. Over the years I'm positive he has been given out when he hasn't actually been so it all evens out, such is cricket. If you really don't like it that much don't watch it and don't post up threads on a site dedicated to Fords saying how much you hate it.

Get over yourself, its a general section.... What are you doing in this section if you have such a problem with it not being about fords!! !

Im simply stating how it wrecks the game!

How does it wreck the game? It's always been the same and hopefully always will be. Would you prefer a completely sanitized version like American Baseball where there are players standing around for 3 minutes waiting for a decision to be made by technology. The over rate is slow enough as it is at the moment with teams like India changing their field placements every couple of balls and still making a mess of it.

Btw I will enter any section of the Forums that I wish to and won't be told what I should and shouldn't do by you.

You take the good with the bad!! When you get a bit of luck, sweet. When you get a dud decision just take it on the chin and get on with it, don't sook.

It's all swings and roundabouts.
