There are endless options, all comes down to what you want and how much you are willing to spend.

how much $$$$ are you looking at spending on it in 13 months?
another option is to sell it and save for another 13 months and get something else.

No one just loses their licence. Use the 13months to take the time to make sure what ever happened, doesn't happen again.

It's getting rarer and people are asking much more for it.

You can use the auto ecu if you get a capa flash box or equivalent. Using the auto ecu without one will have the thermos on all the time with the car revving at 1,110 rpm at idle.

I tried with the stock ecu (no flash box) and ended up needing a manual ecu (thanks Sox).

I didn't have the money for the flash box but I know someone with an auto ecu and capa box setup who still has the car idle at 1,100rpm when cold from time to time.

I'm happy with the stock manual ecu.

I don't think you can use the EF/L box, auto yes, but I don't think you can with the manual. I could be wrong of course, but the prevailing preference/custom here is an AU manual box. If I am wrong, there will be a correction to follow shortly I'd expect. There's lots of good guys here with a great collective wisdom and experience.

As for the bits, try various wreckers, but parts are getting more expensive, more rare and with higher kays. I rang about a dozen and still couldn't get all the bits. In the end ClassicAU put me onto someone. Be patient and you'll find some good gear though. Sadly, I expect that the days of the $1,300 manual conversion are gone.

Mal wood, G&D and Jim Mock all do conversions as do some others, but the price is upward of $2,500 plus if you want a nice Momo knob, add $100+, plus if you want a shortened lever add $100, plus if you want a short shift kit, add $400 plus installation. It all adds up!

I rang a well known wrecker from Melbourne who wanted $1,300 for a box alone, one that had done 140,000 kays. Too much! Another well known place in Castlemaine had a reco box for $1500 but nothing else. Other places even though they had no stock, quoted prices between $2-2.5K for the bits alone.

You could also buy a wreck from the auctions, grab the manual stuff and part off the rest.

All the best with it.

What kind of comment is that?

Give him a break. If he wanted someone to reprimand him on what happened, he would have visited youranaughtyboy.com.

The impression I got from the post is that 'I can't drive for over a year, so how can I make my car go faster for when I get my licence back.' If I am incorrect, I will apologise to all offended. But that's how I read it.

We all make mistakes, I have too. As long as we learn from them and make sure they don't happen again.

That of course is another option.

I saw a great looking Narooma Blue S2 XR8 with a 5 speed and 80 odd thousand kays IIRC on ebay earlier today for around $14,000.

If I had my time again.........LOL!

its not the fact of i want my car to go harder or faster when i get out i just see it as an oppurtunity not driving it and saving fuel money to actually make my car a more enjoyable and safer car to drive might pop down and have a look at the auctions see what au 5 speeds maybe even xr6 5 speeds are fetching

Fair enough. I retract my initial comments, but it was the impression that I first got. Let us (forum) know what you decide and how it turns out.

if you really want to you can go a T56 (6 speed box)

mal wood does these in a kit
or find a mangled BA-BF and get all the good bits then sell the rest and make some $$

good luck

The 5 speeds are the same from xf to Au, but if I remember correctly there is someting about the shifter position from xf to ed...further back I think.

I know one guy who had the pin setup who since had trouble and needed to change to a pedal box. I'd go the whole box, in fact I did! LOL!

Let me clarify. The mechanic who installed my conversion did the pedal box not me.

I can't say exactly what's involved, but from what I know, the pin and extra pedal setup on auto pedals isn't the best.

Stereo/visual mods? Installing a kickass sub enclosure would use up your time.
And hopefully make the car slower rofl.
