I always reset my km travelled to zero whenever I fill up, as I presume most people do.
I like to check regularly what the total of my DTE and km travelled equals. In a typical tank of fuel for me, they always total around 730km. If I do a few short runs around town, it drops to the 500's but after the trip home, it's always back up to total around 730km again. I usually fill up again when I've done about 600km or so, and the dte still usually says about 120km or so to go. If I do a long run, say from Geelong to Warnambool or something similar, the total increases, not surprisingly. The highest I ever saw the total was 915km. Now, a few weeks ago, I got a new exhaust. Was told it would use less fuel, etc. In a normal week of running, I noted that the dte and km travelled total had increased from about 730km, to around 780km, so it would seem better fuel economy has resulted from the new exhaust. Last week, I had to go to Warnambool again, so I filled up the day before, went home, then back to work, then headed off to Warnambool. The total dte and km travelled combined just kept climbing. The highest it reached along the way was a massive 997km!!!! I was pushing for the 1000, but it wasn't to be. Maybe if I'd done the trip straight from filling up, rather than going home first. That week I filled up having done 720km, with the dte still showing about 70km. So, (after all that ramble!), I was wondering what is the highest combined dte and km travelled you guys have seen?

It doesn't reach 1000. Once on a trip from Mackay to Townsville, I filled up before I left, it was on a thursday night so no traffic. When I hit Townsville I fueled up and worked out that I had gotten around 6.2 litres to the 100kms. Started the car and the dte read 999. But only got mialage this good once due to weather and no traffic. Still I'll claim it

With half a tank of petrol to go, I just got over 670km.
OK, OK, I used a full tank of LPG and half a tank of juice to travel that distance!

On long trips I do exactly the same thing - add up the DTE and the distance travelled (helps keep the brain working!). For a long time my best was 1068km, but on a trip to Northern NSW last September, the best total I got was around 1130 from memory. I was very impressed!
When you're on such a fine line with the economy like that, driving very carefully, you really notice how the little things affect it. If you need to stop the car for any reason (stretch of the legs, meals etc), you'll lose 100km just like that! So, as good as the combined total may sound, it never quite works like that in reality. The best I have actually achieved out of a tank is around 880km (normally the trip comes to an end too early, hit city traffic and say bye bye to fuel economy). Car is a 2002 AU3 Forte. Standard except for Tickford snorkle and K&N filter. Cheers, Dave |

Best milage I have gotten out of my car was on the trip up to Sydney a few weeks ago. Between me and a mate sharing the driving we managed to get 850kms out of a tank of premium. Now I know that doesn't sound much, but that is with 3.73 diff gears sitting on 2600rpm in 5th at 110km/h most of the way. Air con on and all! Despite what people say, get these things out on the open road and they just eat up the k's!

Best i've ever gotten out of the XR was a little over a thousand km's. Was on an 10 hour trip to mildura. When I filled her up in Euston I seen this...
Shocked me for sure.

Don't trust DTE ... mine said it has 200km till empty ... and the fuel gauge showed just under hald full .... but both tanks were empty ... bloody senders.
Best I have had so far is 780km from 84L of LPG ... that was on the way back from Melbourne .... and neither my wife or I was driving gently either ... so not too bad from the work ute ... and that's with big enough lights on the front to stop all the bugs hitting the windscreen as well. :

i often do this same thing when on longish trips. best i ever got was on a trip home from rockhampton i worked out i could get close to 1000 km's from a tank of premium. was very free flowing traffic and left earlyish in the morning, had 4 people in the car plus a bootfull of luggage.
at the time it was just a stocker with a 2.5" catback and xr6T snorkel.

With my Au Series 1 Wagon the best I ever got was 887km during a trip.
I've just recently brought a Au Series 2 Futura Sedan and last week was the first time since I've had the car that it just did the run to work and back (all freeway cycle) and I got 840km out of the tank. That was driving it till the trip computer said 0. I was sweating on whether I would get to the servo on the last leg home. |
