The factory speakers are 5x7" in size which limits your choice, unless you make up some adapter plates to fit 6" splits (as i and others have done).
I'm running the 6" splits up front off a 4ch amp thats is bridged for a 12" sub as well all off the factory head unit, it's an OK - Good set up, but by no means fantastic.

Ive done the whole thing. Got a new dash ordered in from the UK to convert it from double DIN to Single DIN, its fantastic and looks stock.
6.5inch splits in the front and rear running off a 4chan amp, 12inch sub off a monoblock.

i'm using the factory head unit that came out in the WP Zetec. I want to upgrade it as it's not the best, but it is good. I also don't want to loose the remote control stalk either...
I orginally had JL audio 5x7s in the front which sounded heaps better than the factory speakers, but they sound no where as good as the 6" splits sounds. I plan on putting my JL Audio 5x7's into the rear when i get a chance to pull it apart. the ipod/mp3 input wont work with a new head unit, you'd have to get one with that option and use its lead/plug set up.
