Sticky lifters: a good excuse to finally do some headwork?

So i've continued having problems with the ute... The mechanic (Ford) now seem to think some lifters or valves are sticking on start up, which is screwing up the timing.


Would this be a good time to do some head work to the motor?
It's a 5.0 litre btw

yes! rip the heads off and put alloys on, or port the GT40P's, new valve springs, new lifters, bigger cam.......ah it never stops!

It can get a bit overwhelming heh. Porting the heads looks the goods with a nice cam.... doesn't help when i read your build thread mate..it inspires me lol

With having just bought a new house...yeah finding spare cash will be interesting..but i'll do it! somehow........

justify it like i did - i wanted it so i got it.

on second thought, depending on your kms done already, it can be a good reason to freshen up the motor. windsors will run for ages but if you can afford to give it a good cleanup then why not.

Well i think it could do with a freshen up, especially if theres enough crap built up in the valves to stop them from working properly.

i think mine a starting to stick i can hear the tick tick tick lol, can i just put sticky lifter solution in it and i should stop??

Give it a good clean out, you can buy an engine oil additive that will do that, I think Slick 50 make a good cleaner, avoid Wynns, they weren't very good twenty years ago, and I can't imagine they would be any better these days.

After you clean it give it an oil change and put in a good quality synthetic oil, you won't regret the etra expense.
