Just bought a manual ute and when I got it the revs had about a two second delay when you take your foot off the accelerator. As in the revs stay put for a few seconds till it drops to idle. I took it to a mate of mine and he pointed out the power steering sensor was faulty and holding the revs high. After I replaced it it definately improved but it still had a slight delay. I guess about 1 second. My mate thought the computer might have to relearn but its been about 2 weeks now. Its not the throttle cable and I have cleaned out the thing (forgot the name at this moment) that controls the idle. I also swapped the TPS with a mates and its not that. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It also idles quite well after the delay.

Mine AUIII XR8 does the same thing, however since I've only driven in like 40km in total over the last 6 months it hasn't really been an issue for me
None the less, I experienced the same thing.. But never troubleshooted (If it is even a problem -- dashpot delay increase to combat clunky gear changes ??) |

Is the aircon on? I noticed that mine does a similar thing when the aircon is on - holds the revs up a bit when changing gears...

Yes and no monkeysxr6. I have tried it either way and I still have the delay. One thing I did try was disconnecting the TPS and it seems to fix the problem. But my mate tells me that its just telling the computer that the throttle is still at idle. Like I said though I did swap the TPS with a mates and it still does the same thing. I am guessing its another sensor problem. But which one ? What would be the consequences if I put a plate between the thing that automatically adjusts the idle so that it becomes ineffective and then adjust the idle with the stop screw ?

To fault find the power steering sensor my mate started the car and got me to move the steering wheel. He said the revs should increase slightly. I did this and the revs did not move. He them disconnected the sensor and put a short accross the terminals and the revs improved straight away. With the aircon I definately notice a change in revs between aircon cycles so I am guessing the aircon sensor is OK. What else is supposed to control the idle that I can check ?

The ISC valve. Cleaning it if it's a little buggered is only a short term stop gap. It may actually be bad enough to need replacing.

I have actually cleaned the ISC or the IAC but noticed little difference (thats the thing I couldnt name in my first post). I will swap it with my mates and see if that makes a difference. Thanks guys and girls.

my mates XR6 EL does the same thing the revs stay up for like a seconds then drop, i just ashumed it was an XR thing...
