I don't think it makes too much of a difference who is president in the grand scheme of things anyway.

But yeah all those racist Americans are gonna be pretty peeved lol.

Tough I say.

I watched McCain concede defeat live online and I must say he was very gracious.

Will soon see how well Obama does with his new position of power

Agreed, he was a winner in his loss. I for one, think this is nothing short of brilliant. I wish Obama well, in what I am sure will be a tough transition.

Is America ready to explode?

After recently traversing across America from south to north I noted a number of various observations. The most pertinent of which in relation to current affairs are the following; the domination in American society of religion is suffocating. A lot of the America I saw had a huge amount of religious fundamentalism going on at a level I found downright frightening. It was more oppressive and obvious than a lot of predominantly Muslim countries that I have spent plenty of time in.

The other thing that really surprised me was the fear that many white Americans had of Obama's candidacy for President. Not a racist fear of their own, but a fear of the racists in their society. So many of what I would describe as moderate, run of the mill normal Americans that in many of their opinions and outlook I would describe as very similar to the average Australian, are sh-tting themselves. They truly believed that Obama would likely be assassinated even before election day and believed it was only a matter of time before he was assasinated. They fear the racial tension that would explode if what they predict actually happens.

"We don't really need that sh-t going down man, as when it does things will get real ugly", was the way one expressed his fears. Combine a looming recession with religious fundamentalism and racial tension and there is one hell of a dangerous melting pot brewing in America.

I reckon he will have more than the average amount of hiccups, purely because of the fact he's the first African-American President. I believe he will truly have an opposition party, GORDZ. But he will do well, of that I'm certain. After all, he has some big shoes to fill.

I watched a good documentary the other night on the discovery channel about the 2000 election and the surprise result from that. It delved deeper into accusations of polling machine tampering, and I must say there was alot of incriminating evidence against Bush, and the polling machine manufacturers. I think the manufactures were in fact convicted of not fixing security flaws etc.
Showed how to hack the polling machine memory card in about 10secs without leaving a trace, and all because the company left a copy of their code on a public ftp server.
Like everything else on TV, u can't really believe everything you see on TV, but it really fueled the idea that the election was a sham.

I think McCain suffered from alot of bad policies from the former government, and didn't distant himself enough from George Bush. A valiant effort...

and thanks Russell for cleaning up this thread.

Oh seriously as the two posts immediately after this showed that's like asking there to be no pictures of cars in a show & shine thread.

This is great news - lets hope he takes the country in a new direction.

I am on a few US forums - you should see all the Republics going on and on about how the USA is now communist and Obama is a marxist (this is because of his proposed health care reforms and he is upping the top tax rate by 4%). These are moderate normal people - its surprising how utterly stupid some of them are.

See ya Bush : : :

I think it's great to see. A bit of diversity and something different. Obama seems to have something to offer the people of America. I, too am concerned that he might be assassinated, as I am sure he and his family are!

but it must say something about his character if he is willing to risk his life for the position. Show's he believes in what he has to offer... Will be interesting - that's for sure

So he may oppose chrysler being bought out and shut down. Important information.

When I become king of the world there will only be one rule with regard to elections.

No person who has ever been involved with the legal profession can ever hold any elected position.

So now there will be an interesting 4 years as the new President shows how he can or cannot resolve any of the existing issues. The real test will be in 2012 when Obama will be judged on his presidency.

I think that this is a great result. I also have friends over there who are hurting because of previous government decisions. Lucky for us that we also have a new leader as I’m sure that Obama hasn’t forgotten what our previous one said about him.
