Unhappy Aircon woes!

Hi was just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be wrong with my 1998 AU airconditioner. The compressor was making a hell of a racket and the aircon switch on the dash would constantly turn off every 5 - 10 minutes if you tried to use it. It was still cold though I just didnt like the noise. We had the gas checked and was told it was fine but to replace the compressor which we did. Then had aircon regassed and the filter in the line replaced. Worked fine for 10 minutes then the switch turned off again. Had the whole switch panel replaced. Now the aircon pipes are getting nice and cold right up to the firewall but thats it! Just blows hot air! Have been told to replace the heater tap which i am having done next week. I still feel that its something else and the guy who looked at it said he might have to pull the dash out starting at around $1000 bucks! It used to work and get cold before all this but the switch kept turning off. Why would it just stop? Have even tried the aircon when the car was cold to see if it would work. It doesnt.

Firstly..my car on normal air conditioning..the switch turns off too.The high setting sticks..just normal stops. When the car blows hot air but te air con is cooling the pipes then its highly probable they didnt install the switches correctly. Sounds too coincidental that the heater blows now. Inside the dash there is a plastic flap which separates the cold and hot air.It sounds as though it is stuck allowing the hot air to blow. Id reccomend getting a second opinion.
Hope this helps.

Yeah just sounds like the thing is not turning to the cold setting. It is on the cold setting isnt it? and not on heat. They probably didnt connect it up properly.
