brush up on spelling and grammar...
it could be the transmission inhibitor switch if it's an auto. has he tried starting it in neutral? i highly doubt it would be anything major unless he fried something jump starting it, then he has to fix it, not you... |

Ild say its the battery mate.
My ED had been sitting around for a month and failed to start - even when i recharged the battery with a battery charger. When i put a new battery in away she went. The battery wasn't that old either. I think sometimes when a battery has been sitting around for a while it can kill it.

get battery load tested, if checks out ok ...
u were saying a ticking noise, sounds like the starter motor solonoid is engaging (which rules immobiliser out), but main drive does not engage, a few good blows with a hammer may free it up, otherwise new starter motor

Just buy a new battery. Mine completely died this week, I left the ignition on to listen to the radio whle doing the conversion, and it died. Now it wont hold charge at all, so $169 and I have a new Century batterywith a 3 year warranty.

wheres the ticking noise commin from??
ticking like a relay is goin nuts like when u have a flat battery?? maybe make sure the coil leads are all attached.. also ensure the gear shifter is in N or P (give it a wiggle back and forth)

my mates AU2 XR8 shut down completely when he was getting the sun roof put it. they had to remove the dash and seats and some of the loom and apparently the computer goes into a protection mode and shuts everything down (thinks its been stripped for parts).
they rang ford who diagnosed it and gave them a sequence of things to do. all fired up after that.

How is it your problem? If this happened at the bodykit fitter's place I'd be asking them to cover at least some of the bill, assuming it hasnt been started/moved while they have had it.

is the clicking noise from the starter motor or the relay?
this rules out inhibitor switch aswell as the starter wouldnt even get a signal if it wasnt in P or N. id be trying to whack the starter with a hammer while trying to crank it or checking if there is power going to the starter. also if u hold the it on start does the solenoid on the starter get hot this would show that the starter is seized. could also be something engine wise seized but i doubt that would happen that quickly sitting there at a body shop. cheers josh.

I had my ute go into "shutdown" mode after trying to start it many times without success, when trying to diagnose what was a fuel pump problem.
Towed it to a mecahnic who had to "unlock" the system, and he also needed both keys to reprogram them. |

it just needs more current to jumpstart it. If we have this issue at work, we simply hook e econd jump pack up to it, andpresto, car starts. Once thats done, the car just needs to be driven regularly, and it will be fine. Thiswas a common occurence when I re-sprayed my xr6, as i continually left the ignition on, once i got it back onthe road, i took it to geelong, and it was good as gold ever since. Still have the same battery as the day i bought it almost 5 years ago.

If he tried to reinstal battery backwards (neg to positive) he might have blown the main engine fuse.
I did this once myself, but you wont get "ticking" |
