Adelaide is an easy place to work out.

Northern Suburbs: Bogan Gang Land
Eastern Suburbs: Italian Mafia
Western Suburbs: Asian Triads
Southern Suburbs: No Mans Land(Even the cops dont bother going here)

Now Edinburgh RAAF/DSTO sits in the middle of Bogan Gang Land, the thinking being if a C130 nose dives into the ground in that area, the law suits will only amount to a couple of cartons of beer.

You guys make me laugh with the pictures and comments, by the time the guy goes there he will be scared driving through Elizabeth.
Like others have suggested Golden Grove would be your best option as main roads and nearly new developed area with reasonable priced with local shopping at your finger tips and Klemzig another suburb I would recommend aswell as you have suggested you would be located in between the city and work and you'll be heading against the traffic too.
What you decide to do I wish you all the succes with your career and job and welcome you to SA.
Cheers
Nick

Lol Phil, I think that fit's me nicely

As for nice areas with a reasonable proximity to the RAAF base, my pick would be Hillbank, Salisbury Heights, Mawson Lakes and even parts of Greenwith & Golden Grove. Bit further out is Gawler which has some nice parts and offers pretty good value I believe.

I have lived in the following Adelaide suburbs :

Burton
Paralowie
Salisbury North
Elizabeth North (Rosewood Village)
Daveron Park
Kilburn
Blair Athol
Craigmore
Morphett Vale
Woodcroft

From someone who has lived in majority of Adelaide's 'worst' suburbs I would without a doubt say South is FAR better than north, but too far to travel for the OP.

I would suggest;
Craigmore - Upper side of Adams Rd is newer
Golden Grove and surrounding suburbs
Gawler - awesome little country town that has everything you need

but there are plenty of nice suburbs with bad streets and plenty of 'bad' suburbs with nice streets.

i live in aldgate. up in the hills. i work down at mitcham ( outskirts of the CBD) and it takes me around 20 mins to get there. its nice and quiet up here. have seven acres of room and its close to town.

the onlt thing i do complauin about is the drivers that dont seem to know how to turn a steering wheel. i constantly get stuck behind people doing 35kph in a 80 zone becuase the is a sweeping bend approaching.

Since the Southern Suburbs is No Mans Land, does this mean this is the place to come for women???

So I went to Adelaide........along the way I witnessed plenty of rubbish driving but that's another story.

I intended to spend at most $200 per week but the units I looked at seemed dodgy to say the least (Houses that looked awesome on the net and then when you go for a look, there is literally a railway line across the road!!).

After 3 days looking got fed up and picked up a sweet 2 bed apartment overlooking the main street of Mawson Lakes. Needless to say I absolutely blew my budget but I might just get a flat mate.

yes Elizabeth and surrounding area was exactly like everyone said

Just stock up on the Aeroguard at Mozzie Lakes. Mawson Lakes was built on old swamp lands if you are wondering about the reference to mozzie's.
