I was wanting to know if the wiring is in the AU forte for cruise and I just have to add the buttons and cruise control unit and cable that bolts into the engine bay or is there seperate wiring to be fitted as well.

Bugger! I was going to do a how-to with pix, but thought no-one else would do this.
You will need to replace some wiring. Parts you need are buttons, cruise control unit & cable (all 1 assembly), combination switch (aka steering column stalks), de-activate switch on brake master cylinder, and the wiring harness that goes through the firewall. You need to remove the airbag, steering wheel, steering column upper & lower covers and master cylinder to fit it all in. I found under-dash access easier with the fuse panel flipped down. A good Ford-specialist wrecker will be able to supply all the parts as a kit. You will need a the special 5-point Secure Torx bit to remove the airbag... and don't forget to disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour or so before removing the airbag to avoid triggering it.

If I may add to this, I have just installed cruise in my AUII cab chassis. If you can find a suitable vehicle at the wreckers, the wiring harness you need is on the driver's side under the bonnet. It will be connected to the master cylinder (low brake fluid warning switch), the wipers, and the oxygen sensor. Trace this back, it has a large oval grommet through the firewall, and is connected to a large orange plug under the dash. The whole harness can be unplugged without tools. Take some care with the plastic retainers on the switches, they are easily broken. You don't have to go near the fusebox. The harness from the wrecked vehicle has the same plugs (wipers oxygen sensor etc), plus the extras for the cancel switch on the master cylinder, and the cruise control cable activator.
I didn't need to remove the master cylinder. You will need to remove the clock spring, so the combination switch can be fitted. Be careful not to rotate it. It also has a small metal tang, which may come loose when you remove the steering wheel. This has to be placed so it touches the metal hub of the steering wheel. The cable actuator is secured to the spare hole in the rocker cover, tap a 5mm bolt, next to the throttle cable. There is a spare tang on the throttle body lever to attach the fitting on the end of the cable actuator. The combination switch, steering wheel buttons, and cable activator also turn up regularly on ebay. The basics for the wiring must already be there as I found that the indicators for cruise and set, on the odometer screen also lit up, when the cruise is on. |

OTOH I fitted an AU2 booster to my AU1 and it is a bit clockwise compared to my wife's AU3... perhaps the bottom of the m/cyl is a fraction too close on my car to fit the cruise module in. Anyway it's all working well. Thanks for covering the bits I missed.

Yeah that's fair enough. It was hard to fit the actuator. The size of the U shaped mounting bracket was the problem. What I did was unbolt the actuator from the bracket, then bolt the bracket onto the guard first, then the actuator into the bracket, while feeling around to put the bolts in from underneath. Only three, although there was a 4th dummy hole. The socket set helped here. My ute was petrol only when I fitted the cruise. I have since put on dual fuel.

Thanks for the info... shame there wasnt a DIY guide... as i'd love to know the correct order to do the work in before i start ripping everthing apart (so tempted to do).. :P
