I know the Street Commodores project VN ran around the 13.8 mark N/A. I also know of another VN with the 4.3L stroker kit that was in the 13s too. Both of those are obviously the earlier Buick V6 though..

Ive always wanted to see a list like that. Thanks heaps. One thing I never really realised was just how light they really are. 1205 kg for one of them, thats 400KG off mine, thats like having 4 really big dudes in my car trying to race. And the MPH as they are so much lighter is a lot lower, for a 13, we generally need 100mph plus, they need just 97-98mph.

Some pretty impressive cars there. Cant wait till Brisbane commodore club organise the next dyno/drag day for Holdens Vs. Fords. Makes a really good day out.

This car would have to be the fastest, although there is stuff all Holden parts left in it. I believe it beat a Cosworth powered Gould at the Australian Hillclimb Championships a few years back, and they are known to be quicker to 100 mph than a F1.

Wasn't even born in the mid-80's but i've done a bit of reading and i THINK the group B rally cars (audi quattro, peugeot 205 T16) could do 0-100 in something ridiculous like 2.5 seconds (quicker than an F1) because they weighed much less than 1 tonne and had both a supercharger and a turbocharger.
Little off topic but someone who knows more about these cars correct me if im wrong as the above facts are a bit vague?? |

Fords RS200 did 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds! Othe notable cars were the Porsche 959, Rover Metro 6R4 and the Audi Quattro S1...

VN V6s arn't Ecotechs i dont think. Ecotech are VS to VZ (Does VE still run the 3.8?). In base models on the latter when they started to use alloytechs in the S and SV6s.
VN motors are supposed to go better then the Ecotech variants, even though its still just a Buick Carby motor, injected with a different manifold. They don't go too badly. I dragged my mates VS Ute at WSID, depending on who was ahead off the mark, thats how it would stay up until 80 or so Kms then the 4.0l would pull away. I don't know how well an older 4.0l I6 would hold up against it. He didn't pull better then a 16.2 all night, even though the temps got colder the car didn't want to go any better, where as the 4.0l got better and better the colder it got. But yeah as said, no chance running 11s N/A, they'll do it S/C or Turbo. The VT Supercharged V6s run a low 15 stock I think, but a VT is a heavier car with the same motor.

We stayed level from standstill to about 130km/h, then I backed off. * My VN had a 2 1/2" cat-back exhaust with low restriction mufflers and a CAI. Used to pull quite hard. The benifit of being quite a light car (VN Exec was actually lighter than a VL!) * Closed course accelleration trials performed on a private road...lol

ASTRO6 in perth has a bombed out setup with a Whipple blower in a Commy wagon and I think he is running in the 11's consistantly
Seriously doubt an NA would do it |

There's one guy with a twin turbo ecotec that runs 9's. Fastest in the world I think. There's more than you can count in the 11s and up with boost. Couple with stock motors running 11's too.
Mid-High 13s is about as quick as you go NA. Some kid recently went high 13's in a VT which I thought was a really good effort considering how much heavier they are over a VN/P. Also a healthy near stock VN/P, say cat back exahust will run 15.3, manual could go slightly quicker. That said most of them on the road today are more like 15.8-16.2 cars due to old age. All up a modified Ford 6 is quicker on average I reckon even in the heavier cars. There's has never been one run quicker than 13.5 in a Commodore as far as anyone knows NA |
