I've heard many people say that insurance will take your money but not make a process a claim if you have an accident but a mate wrote off his VU SS on his p's 18months ago and insurance paid out no worries.

If you got your license after July 2007 but before July 2008, then it's straight out no V8's, turbo's. If you are getting your license after July 2008 then (obviously) you will be subject to the new restrictions. |

I've seen two BA XR6 Turbos sell recently. Both manuals. One went for $13,500 and the other one went for $14,600. Both had 200,000kms. I thought I was rather chop when I got my BA in early 2005, with the head turns etc. I was one of few p platers in a BA, but they're everywhere now. I was lucky though and bought it as a repairable write off (only had 10,000kms). Fixed it up all myself and had it for 3 years. I still wonder how all these kids get these cars though.

you can get a decent BA XR6T for around 20k-25k even cheaper depending on its condition & K's, but its really not a massive amount for a young adult with a steady well paying job & not to many other commitments.
Granted there are alot of spoiled kids who are lucky enough & their perants have brought them a new car. but for alot of other young people they have to work hard & save. But for a young car enthusiast who is after the car they love, 25K is not an unachievable goal! |

The only way to get a car worth that amount is either through finance or their parents have put up the cash.

In Victoria you cannot drive an XR6 Turbo on P Plates. Power to weight ratio too high for those P plate drivers who got their licenses before July 1st 2007 and those after are not allowed to drive Turbos (Unless TD)

I find it very irritating when people immediately assume that parents have shelled out or you've gotten a big loan you can't afford to pay off. I'm sure that is the case with some, but for me and the many others who work bloody hard, it's insulting. P platers with a good work ethic and determination do exist. : Like someone else said, I have many mates who are 19-22yo, and some make alot more than the average income, that's for sure.
Anyway, I don't see the point of a turbo right now. I like to keep my insurance void-free, and when I drive by the boys in blue I don't even give half a second to worrying about whether they'll pull me up, do me for being in a high powered vehicle, then go over the car and all it's mods and proceed to ream me. But when I turn 21, boy oh boy, that day...there will be some serious RWKW |

What happens if you had your Green P's since 2004.. but got disqualified in 2006 for 12months, and got your licence back in 2008?
Had licence for a few years before the new laws, lost licence, then got it back after the laws, Do the new laws apply? Friend is in this scenario and is curious as he gets his licence back this friday and drives an SV8 VY. |

I don't know about victoria, but I'm on my red P's in QLD. I am on some new laws, but I know for a fact that the people on the old laws only have to abide by the laws that were in place at the time they took their test. E.g, they don't have to wear P plates, have no power restrictions etc. |
