Guys
having a bit of an issue with my home network at the moment. Is a standard Telstra one, all works fine etc but it seems that the connection is resetting/not going through on sites and programs that require logins, examples being Ebay, Itunes istore, hotmail etc - I go to sign in and they just will not load up and fiefox tells me the connection was reset. The weird thing is though that everything else is working fine - forums etc all ok. Any ideas on what I might need to change?

Do you get the same message using IE?
Update IE and FF to the latest releases... You can also try disabling the local area connection (Control Panel, Network Connections) and then re-enabling it. Right clicking on the LAN connection will bring up the option to disable it. Also try disabling any add-ons for the time being, as these can sometimes be an issue. Clay |

Actually, have a look at your anti virus and firewall settings.

When it resets, do you notice if the lights on the modem go out? in particular, DSL, Sync or link light?
If the internet is actually dropping out, then the above will only be a temporary fix.

Also try the usual refresh and cache cleaning.
As all of the sites mentioned use SSL encryption, it possibly could be that FF has its cypher strength set to 0 instead of 128. (this is a common problem with IE). Check the advanced settings in FF. Under encryption, make sure 'use SSL' is enabled. Thats about all I can think of atm |

Russ i dont think it's nextG, its just the standard Telstra Broadband wireless ADSL modem. All browsers are updated and firewall is on medium-high setting.

What sort of router are you using?
There is a field called MTU setting, this should be set to 1500 or you could try auto. Check it out and let me know. |

Some other ideas:
Ensure 'work offline' is unticked. (File>Work Offline). Temporarily disable antivirus. Reboot computer Contact Telstra. Possibly a DNS issue at their end. |

I've been unable to find the MTU setting, any ideas of where I would find it?
I also updated Java this afternoon and now ebay and hotmail work, however carsales.com.au doesnt (sorry, just naming sites that dont work so hopefully we can resolve this). I have checked the antivirus and all seems ok but it does seem like the wireless network is timing out/going inactive after a period of time while still saying it is connected. Thanks for the help so far guys, any other ideas on what I can try?

sometimes you can ping a particualar site to see if they are working too and how slow they are. at the time of this post i pinged carsales.com.au and there was a time out which means to me they are having issues.
