Default TE50/XR8 Exhaust options

Ok guys i had a quick search but couldnt find much. Ive booked my TE in for an exhaust on Monday.
Guy at the exhaust shop suggested a 2.25" twin system. He said that a 2.5" would be too big on a standard 5L and should only be used if there is engine works in the pipeline.
Now my TE already has a 2.25" from factory. So apart from replacing the mufflers and a more free flowing system i fail to see that the 2.25" system will net me any gains note wise. Im not after any real performance gains as such, i just want my V8 to sound just that, like a V8. Ive noticed that alot of V8 guys have twin 2.5" twins and it seems to be the way to go. A single system is out as ive heard afew and they dont do anything for me and i think V8's should have a twin system.
Any ideas welcome.

Knowing what you are after Dallas I think a twin 2.5 is the best option for you. Make sure you are careful with muffler selection as this can make all the difference.

Thanks Russ, yeah i think the 2.25" wont produce any real difference in note IMO. Thats why ill more then likely go the 2.5" me thinks, ill confirm the muffelrs they use aswell.

Yep mate, as I said, go the 2.5". Anything less will be wasting your time.

Plus sound wise you can't go past it.

I'd go Twin 3" from Cat with 2 rear Magnaflow Mufflers (1 on the end on each Pipe). ,, It will give you a loud and notey sound. But depends how loud you do want it. This would be VERY loud.

Twin 3" is FAR too big for a standard 5L. Getting a nice note is one thing and it isnt hard on a windsor. But i dont want it over the top an a twin 3" is over kill IMO

Ive got a twin 2.5" on the XR6 (NA) and it sounds and performs great. I had a twin 2.25" previously and the new system pulls much harder up top and sounds deeper aswell. This is on a 6 so im sure you will have no problems with it on the 5.0L :evil3:

Sorry to be off topic, but I've seen a couple of twin pipe sixes, mostly on utes tho. And damn they can sound good.

Well its done, twin 2.5" system with pex mufflers. It is a tad loud at present ill wait until it carbons up a bit before i decide if i like. But the note is fantastic.
While im at it a quick thanks to Robbie Toy and all the guys at Toys custom exhausts Redcliffe, very happy with their servive and would recommend them to anyone looking for an exhaust. I think they were as excited as me, they all downed the tools for the first start :

Got to be happy with that at a realistic price too. Dead right about not knowing what the final note will be till they carbon up my herrod system on the B sounded tinny till it carboned up now I like it. I can say I have never heard a bad sounding exhaust on a T though.

Does anyone use Lukey mufflers on thier windsor? I notice most of you use magnaflow.

At the moment it sounds good idle>4000rpm, if a tad quiet and not lumpy enough, but a good tone. After that I feel it's loud but sounds abit high pitched rather than a roar. It's also a stock 175kw windsor apart from the exhaust, so doesn't have a decent cam like the xr8's. Also it's been about 2 weeks and 600-700km since it was installed. Is this enough time for it to carbon up?

I'm wanting to know if the lukey mufflers are crap for the windsor, or if I just need a warmer cam and to be carboned up abit more.

Perfect mate. If someone comes in to your work and tells you theres a dodgy looking bloke lying on the ground behind your car, don't worry, it's just me being a sticky beak JK

Ill see your finger prints in the dust Grant, you might not even recognise it. But feel free if you want to.
It does sit quite high up where it passes under the diff, i noticed afew IRS equipped cars with exhausts fitted they sit pretty low. This was a 'custom' setup aswell so i think that helped compared to off the shelf systems.
