Default Accident and the Media

Ok so last night our whole family was having Christmas dinner at my Aunty and Uncles house. One of my other Auntys has met a new man a few months ago, and is now happier then she has been in YEARS, they were handing out wedding invitaions yesterday at the dinner. Immediatly after the dinner they left to go to Melbourne to see her fiances family, and so he could do a little bit of work while they were over there.

I get awoken at 4:30am this morning by my Mother because the Police had just been around to tell us they had hit a tree just the other side of Tintinara, my Aunt has been killed and her fiance was air lifted to the Flinders Hospital with serious Injuries. Now I wasnt close to her, I actually only really saw her at family occasions every now and then, so although im a bit cut up that shes gone, it hasnt really affected me that much (this makes me feel REALLY bad when the rest of the family is miserable :(). The really heart breaking thing though is when my sister, her husband and I had to go break the news to her son, our cousin. Its also my Grandmothers birthday today, excellent present hey.

So ive just been on the AdelaideNow website to find that they have put the story in with another of a guy doing 161km/h in a 60 zone. Now this REALLY ****es me off because the Police said there was evidence that they were actually going under the speed limit, yet this story gives you the impression that they were hooning, and after reading a few of the comments thats exactly the impression people are getting. When will they learn that its not only hoon driving that causes accidents!

Heres a link to the story

Mate even though you weren't that closse i bet it's still not the sort of christmas you or your family were looking for and my condolences to you and your family for that.

In relation to the article you posted, it really is a shame the media went down that path but it is a witch hunt at moment. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story i suppose. A lot of the people who have commented on that particular article are the exact reason why the media continues on the witch hunt. The 2 stories should never have been linked in a such a way.

All it has really done is make a bad situation worse for you and your family. Again my condolonces .

Sorry to hear mate. This is why the media is such a dangerous and wrongly influencing force, and most should disregard it as much as possible, especially with 'shock and awe' stories.

What terrible terrible news. Condolences to you and your family.

I hope you and your family find comfort in the time that you spent with her before she was taken away in such tragic circumstances. To know she was happy and in love and loved by her family is a memory you will never forget.

same happens to me a few years ago. i was involved in a car accident, i got rid of all charges and the police's investigations had proved that i was 1km under the speed limit and not in the wrong, yet when the incident was shown on the news and in news papers it stated that a 18 year old hoon was caused a death in a car accident..
seeing the media do that makes me want to do things to those people that i cant mention on forums

i tried to take this further, my family and i spoke to a few lawyers but had no chance of taking legal action..

my condolences for you and your family..

My condolenses to you and your family
The reason the media go down that path is because they have been told to emphasize the speeding angle, if and where they can, this is to justify the massive spending on speed cameras etc and the myth that they save lives.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Nobody deserves this, especially at this time of year. After reading the article I agree with you %100. It really sickens me to know the media presents the news in a way that causes assumptions in the people reading it. Disgusting, beyond doubt.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family. The ADVERTISER has been pushing their anti- hooning barrow, in cahoots with the SA government for years. They are making people believe, that if hooning stopped the road toll would cease overnight. Anyone with an inkling of commonsense knows that's wrong. As long as horror stretches of highway like the dukes exist along with driver error/ignorance and incompetence there will always be fatal accidents. It is also the price we are paying for Adelaide being a one newspaper town, they can write it however they choose.

The media regurgitate whatever pap they decide they feel is a moral obligation to preach about that day.

Particularly those so called 'current affair' tv shows that vomit mindless slurry that melt brain cells and persuades the impressionable their opinion for that day.

My condolences to you and your family, Antwon.

Please don’t let the reporting of this tragedy ad to the grief. I’d like to think that most people who read the article would be able to figure out that the stories are not related… hopefully.

With respect, I’ve driven trucks along this road for the last nineteen years and have never thought of it as a horror stretch, although, I tend to agree with the rest of your comments.

It makes you wonder if they read the article before writing the heading.

Woman crashes car into tree is the heading, then woman passenger killed in the story.
