Hi, I have a set of EL GTs on my XR8 and want to replace the current rotors to a set of slotted ones. I was hoping to get a set of DBA 4000 series but nothing is listed. Are they available, or would you recommend something else?
Thanks

I got the brakes off another car which had GT rims and ecu, so I'm guessing it all came off a GT at some stage.
So those rotors from DBA are cross-drilled and slotted, right? Do you have anything that is just slotted, which perform well?

The rotors i quoted are slotted only and are replacement for the original GT 330mm brakes. If the other car was not a GT and /or the uprights are not GT then this could be a aftermarket brake upgrade which may or may not have the factory disc and hub in one assembly.Sorry to confuse but the GT kit without GT uprights will not bolt straight up to an E series and there are 3 or 4 aftermarket kits that use different rotors.

If this is any help, here's a pic of the uprights and rotors. I don't know if you can tell by these pics whether it's

I can't see the mounting holes of the uprights clearly but i am guessing the rotor at the bottom of the picture is the one you are replacing and by the looks of it could be a 3 piece deal .
1.The hub 2.Alloy hat 3.The disc You will need to find the origins of this kit to replace the rotors as i haven't seen it before.

The upright for the new brakes is the bottom one, I'm pretty sure. So I take it these aren't EL GTs with a different rotor then? And the rotors you quoted me will more than likely not fit?

It is hard to see what you have there as it seems to be two different sets of uprights and rotors and with the shadow making it dark over the uprights it is hard to see what you have so can you take another photo in the light and also is the top rotor a std e series disc or a 328mm disc. Also take a photo of the caliper and any brackets .

That upright you have with the new brakes is definitely an EL GT type, none of the modified uprights put the mounting hole right in the middle of the upright like that.
Interesting about the rotor though. I thought there was only one disc available and that was a slotted rotor from DBA, whereas the one you have there looks like its a two piece to me. |

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The top upright is standard EL, as well as the top disc being standard size EL, just slotted DBAs on there. Everything is currently on my car so can't take more pics. The caliper mounts directly to the 2 holes you can see in the bottom upright in that picture.
Here's the only pic of the calipers I got, next to the standard one

OK what i am thinking and you will have to check is this. The upright is a EL GT one because the caliper mounts straight to it and the rotor you have may still be the same dimensions as a EL GT rotor of 329mm x 28mm thick but they have made a special disc for racing use.If this is the fact then you should be able to put a pair of dba slotted discs on to replace at $350 a rotor but check the rotor size.

Cheers. I had another look at the DBA site and saw they have a list of dimensions. When I get a chance, I'll check them out to ensure they are the same, then let you know. Do the new rotors come with new bearings or are they a seperate purchase?

I'm pretty sure it's just a 2-piece

Yeah the whole kit we fitted Chad, was definately a genuine EL GT kit with the genuine uprights and calipers. Its just the rotors are some unknown aftermarket jobbie.
Matt, while your here. A quick question, the upgrade of yours on my ute, that uses a DBA slotted rotor to fit EL GT brakes yeah? The kit is still going strong by the way mate, worth every cent ;)

You might want to get in touch with DBA or similar and see if you can find out what the outer piece is from.
It will most likely be cheaper than the EL GT rotor, and being a 2 piece it wont be as prone to cracking under high loads either. Does the rotor have its part number stamped around the outer edge? It should have a part number and its minimum thickness stamped on it. |

Sorry mate, forgot to check this thread since I got the net on at the new place. Are you able to do these discs in just slotted, rather than drilled? Also, what are the bobbins?

Cheers for the info mate. I think I'll be going with the DBAs when finances allow because these are really noisy, which I think is thanks to those dimples. A constant whirring sound. It annoys the crap out of me.
