That was published in Wheels a few years ago along with the "unaltered" photo of the speedo (as opposed to the altered image they used in 1971 to keep the speed they did a secret).

Well worth the read! Sounds amazing, I wonder how the Phase IV would have fared...

I am pretty sure it was in the May 1993 issue, which was the 50th anniversary of the magazine

Do a search on "HO down the Hume" and the story is on a GT Club's Web Site (Victoria's I think). The original story was written in 1971 and the photo which accompanied the story had to be touched up to replicate the revs / speed for third gear. Don't forget this was around the time of the Supercar scare - that's why they couldn't tell / show the true story.
The story is great - Albury to Broadmeadows in two hours. The original story was also witten in MPH not KPH it actually makes better reading. Paul B XR6WGN

I remember doing an OCR scan of that article from a magazine in the mid 90's and I put it on my website here:
http://web.archive.org/web/200105190...net.au/~chris/ http://web.archive.org/web/200010202...chris/hume.htm I even received an email from a relative of the photographer, Uwe Kuessner asking if I knew his contact details. |
