Default Fiesta Zetec and Snow Chains

In the manual it states that snow chains should not be used. But... if I wanted to head up to one of the ski areas in VIC, I understand that they are a legal requirement.

Has anyone got any ideas? Is the manual statement more of a 'warning' rather than a 'fact' - if that makes sense.

Ive seen a couple WP/WQ Fiestas at Perisher a couple years back...
Its probably more of a warning or a legal requirement so if the chains bust your suspension they dont need to cover it under warranty?...
