Unfortunately, some people are bound to endanger their own lives out of rank stupidity. Whether it be be by sky diving, rock climbing, car surfing, having a bath whilst watching a dirty movie and the vcr playing titty-titty-bang-bang falls in and electrocutes you; or buying a chinese car - these people are best served out of our gene pool.
If you want to buy a new car of dubious quality for 20K then you have rocks in your head. Just because it has a warranty? Go to an auction and pick up an FG with a 5 star crash rating and factory warranty for that money. It's not rocket science. Then again, the people buy a gayly are the morons who put the cheapest tyres on their cars as well as the cheapest brake pads, then pack the wife and kids off for a drive. Idiots.

2010 made cars with the saftey of my Subaru thats best defence is the hard n heavy bodywork. The 2010 cars use the lighter thinner crumple designed sheets. hmm.
I personally wouldent go near them. Having said that saftey wasent high on the adgenda when purchasing my car, i needed it to do a number of things and contain a number of things. It was everything i liked in a car, so i bought it. And most other people do the same thing, they have a list of what they want in a car. If that list consists of cheap, warrentied, fits 5 people and has air con, then people will buy the car that fits that list, which will probably include the aformention chinese cars. As we can see almost daily, there's people out there that dont really think beyond a certain point, if not at all.

To the majority of people who drive to work and back from a city suburb to the city, who are lucky to get above 60km/h on their daily drive these cars will be a huge hit. All it needs is a radio, aircon and a good price tag. If they have a smash at 60kph chances are the thin 'crumple sheets', will do just that, crumple, absorb the impact and the driver will be fine. The car may be a write off but hey, thats what insurance is for and at the price you can just replace it.
Sure their reliability after 3 years will be dubious, but thats when you upgrade. Spending $20K every 3 years isn't a huge investment for a runabout. Personally I think they're crap and I don't really want them on the road, but they'll sell well and people will be happy with them and keep buying them. Not good for the rest of the market, but thats business for you. Lets just hope enough people have the sense to keep Ford in business! Maybe it will make Ford pickup their game in terms of Quality and Pricing. The new Ranger is made in Thailand (as was the old I think?), don't hear any complaints on quality for it. Would that be different if the Ranger was say $24K drive away?

I'm surprised they are so expensive. i'm sure they could sell them a lot less. or are australian buyers just used to cars costing a year's wage?

But unfortunatly, I think you're right, there will be people who will still buy them and be a huge hit. Those who have a family and drive there kids to school ect... probably wont even think about it. They will just be happy that they just saved themselves $10k....... It will take them another 10 - 20 + years before their cars are to the sort of standard we see in the Euro / Jap /Aus cars now, but like the Japs did, they will get there quality controls up there. |

I checked their websites. Some of them are copies. Here is one example. BYD S8 and Mercedes CLK
I found these pics on the net confirming these vehicles are copies. BYD F3R vs. Chevrolet Lacetti BYD F1 vs. Toyota Aygo

The reality is that not many people consider ancap. If safety was so paramount we wouldn't have Motorcycles. We certainly wouldn't have the number of people being pulled over for everything from not wearing thier seatbelts to unroadworthy vehicles endangering every other road user.
These cars are here to stay. That said, if it drags new car prices down across the board then I for one am happy. Considering the lack of options such public transport outside of Capital cities etc etc, new car prices in this country are a joke and tarrifs help nobody.

What drugs are you on ? New car prices have never been so low ! A new car has never been so affordable..... And you say you would be happy if it brought prices down across the board.....of an industry that has cut throat margins already, So you would be happy that because of these new super cheap cars that everyone apparently will buy, it puts our local car manufacturers out of business, that will give you soooo more options... weather to buy a blue chinese piece of ***** or a green chinese piece of ***** |

Hers - 2010 XR5 Focus So many things about the australian car industry i must have missed. Like when they made the Patrol Wagon and the XR5 Focus in australia. They kept those quiet. Obviously some have to support the industry, and some dont. |
