Actually this opens up a whole new can of worms of Ford development vehicles produced over the years ie. Didn't Ford produce a 300kw 4.6L Falcon showcar back in the 90's. Also wasn't there a minute number of XU2 Toranas produced?? Wasn't there also a few Commodores produced in the 80's with 350 Chevs?? |

Dick Johnson did some Grandprix XE's, but they're not an official Ford Vehicle, the "phase 5" was an aftermarket bodykit....

The problem with a lot of the figures is that the "real life at the strip" numbers are with non factory tyres and non factory pressures with excess weight removed on extra sticky surface with a little bit of roll-on hedging so they can't be compared to others.
The magazines play it fairly and use accelerometers. |

Neither a Holdens or FOrd ....
Couple weeks ago at Sydney DRagway on wed night.. Brand new Porsche Turbo S ..... Stock as rock as tested by Wheels Magazine ... 10.8 @ 133mph ... True Supercar .. Sorry but a HVS or GT ford is not a supercar in my opinion . They are overproduced family sedans . Both nice cars to own and drive , but def not a supercar .

I don't think a Porsche would qualify anyway as it's not an Australian Factory Supercar.........

'Supercar is a term used most often to describe an ultra-high-end "exotic" automobile, whose performance is superior to that of its contemporaries. It has been defined specifically as "a very expensive, fast or powerful car".[1] Stated in more general terms: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match," "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own".' |

I like to see the 400 meter times and the 500, 600 and 1000 meter times. that shows the truer performance potential.
Something may be fast to the 400m but after that it could be a slug. |

Not to mention people pay 70-90k for GT and HSV cars nowadays ..
I can Promise they wont be worth 5 times that in years to come, unlike the old true " Supercars " of Australia ... Hence overproduced statement . They are just a badge used to sell the car nowadays , where as back in the old days, a GT ford or E49 charger or Xu1 Torana was a pretty special limited run . And nothing else from the factory would come close ! Now you have a GT ford which is slower than the turbocharged 6 in every way possible . Thats pretty sad to me .
