Last Sunday night I had to do a run to the airport.Heading west along the ring road I got flashed as I went under the Hume Hwy overpass, (damn, I didnt even know there was one there!). Anyhows I had the button on the G6E set at 103kph and the speedo was reading 103kph as I got the flash. Any thoughts on my chances on getting a letter from Snr. Cons. Ritchie at the traffic cam office ???

Are you sure it was for you. It would be a very rare car that was doing over 100, when the speedo said 103. Most are normally set around 5 k's under (to err on the side of caution)

I know most of the cameras on the Hume are "average speed" cameras that flash regularly and I dare say the Ring Road cameras are the same. I've been flashed at many times on the Hume and Western Ring Road and not been done. Wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'd reckon you might be alright.
Knock off a few k's for your speedo being out as most read over, then knock off a couple more for the cameras leeway and you should be fine. Also if it's going to happen then it's going to happen, so no point loosing sleep over it. But nah I think you'll be OK. Darn it, that Ritchie bloke still at it is he? What is this guy an immortal or something? He should have worked his way up to at least Chief Commissioner after all these years. |

Don't the cameras do test calibration flashes or something? I remember reading about it somewhere, kind of like a self test.

AFAIK, there isn't a camera on that bridge. The fixed camera is further up on the Widford St bridge, just before the Pascoe Vale Rd overpass. Also the fixed cameras that are on bridges don't flash, they use IR flashes instead.
I think you'll be fine. Edit: just checked this site http://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov....era+locations/ and zoomed in on the Ring Road, no camera on the Hume overpass...

As already pointed out, the cameras on the bridge don't flash so you're fine.
Ritchie is a S/SGT by the way.... |

Doesnt the speed limit change to 80kph roadworks some 2-300m before the hume highway underpass?
Or do you mean the Hume Freeway?

Falcons read 3km/h faster than they are actually travelling.
At 103km/h on the speedo, you were doing bang on 100km/h in the real world. Wouldnt give it another thought. |
