So in trying to get my au looking a bit tidyier i went to ford and tried to buy the chrome strip thats along the door in the plastic mould for my front passenger side door. Ford want $81 for it, and thats just the little chrome strip pinstrip bit, any ideas? Do you guys think that if i got a 2nd hand one from the wreckers it would glue on ok? Or should i just fork out the rediculous money for it?

Problem is after you pull the pinstripes off, they sort of bend. They can be a PITA to stick down to your car properly. I orignially done the same thing, ended up going back to ford and forking out the dough.

i gave HLC some chrome striping and he made his own, It can be hard to find- but some older Auto stores still keep it. Its made to go on your wheel arches, but if you mod it a bit, it will fit in the door strip profile. Its a 5 metere roll and costs around $35.00. HLC may still have the packaging to tell you exactly what the company name is.

Yeah i've looked at that, the local store has some that was $25, but its not gel coated like the normal factory one, can you get it with the gel coat? If not the thought cross's my mind of finding the same width stuff and just replacing all of it on the car to match.

i just put the chrome strip on mine yesterday after getting them 2nd hand from the wreckers and all are on and look good. 2 tips though, use prepsol to get the old 2 way tape off as the chrome can peel if you just pull the tape, and sit the chrome strips out in the sun on a nice flat surface and they will soften up and straighten back out. hope this info helps

i think its the gel coat that has caused the problem in the 1st place... just peels back and takes the chrome with it

So I was a good boy and did a search before I posted a new thread and found this
thread. The tape is still on my RRH door but the chrome stip has come off. This was from the panel shop repair I had done about 2 years ago. So is any one able to pin point me in the right direction to get one at a reasonable price, it is annoying me a little. Thanks guys.

There's somebody here who put BA door moulds onto his AU - looked sleeker and cleaner IMO. Worth considering?
Did your panel shop repairs come with a warranty on the job? You may still be covered??
