After a year that has been too much for a 4 year old to have to endure, and a recent spate of instances that have upset him, I thought I would do something to cheer him up.
Introducing the newest addition to the YM household. "Rex". (I wanted to call him Tezza, but the 4 year old got his own way) 8 week old border collie X labrador. |

hehe, yeah he is. I'm normally fighting to get him off the gameboy or playstation, I haven't seen him for 2 hours, he's been running around in the backyard playing. Poor dog is just about dead on his feet. |

EXCELLENT! Always good to see happy kids and it's great that he's out in the yard. Really good to see a mum who cares. Keep up the good work.

Sad news, Rex has been taken to the vet with parvo. Will be in hospital for minimum 4 days, if he makes it at all. Fingers crossed for him, needless to say, YM child is devastated. If only 1 thing would go right for him this year.

Hey YM
Just had to say your pup is beautiful and Parvo is not necessarily the end of the world. We had a blue cattle dog – named Blue _ who developed Parvo at 8 weeks even though he had been immunised - it must have already been in his system. It was touch and go for a little while but these working dogs are strong and have a lot of fight in them. Blue Dog was sick off and on for a year but he did make a full recovery and lived a charmed life until he died of old age at 13-14 years old. He was one of the best dogs we ever had and even though he cost us a small fortune in his first year of life he was worth every cent and more. I hope that for you and your kiddlywinks sake that your little Rex is a tough cookie and makes it over this hurdle. Cheers, Tori |

Thanks guys. Poor little thing just started to get really lethargic this afternoon and vomited a couple of times. I tried to ring the "supposed" 24 hour number for the place we bought him from to find it was switched off, so I rang the vet and the vet met me at the clinic and did the tests which proved it was parvo and put him on an IV drip. Fingers crossed everything will be ok. He was playing all morning, then just went downhill, so hopefully we got it early enough.
Ethan is devastated, but I promised him if we ring the vet and he is feeling better in the morning we can go and visit him in hospital, which sort of cheered him up. Strange thing is, I thought I was protecting him by not taking him to the vet with me, thinking it would upset him, but when I got back he asked so many questions I think it would have been better taking him so he could see what was happening to his dog. Kids really are amazing characters, they take in so much more than you realise. |

Keep him informed and let him see for himself....if it goes bad it will make it easier for him to accept....good luck.

Rex is home and doing better than ever. Driving me insane, and chewing anything he can get his hands on.
He is one very spoilt, very happy little pup. And I have one very besotted and very happy son. |

Yeah, good news, did the rest of the litter get the parvo as well, or was it only Rex ?
hopefully he won't have any long term effects. |

Every boy should have a dog growing up, but if you want to see him really happy and besotted, make sure his first car is a Ford.
Glad to hear the pooch is well. There is a weekend puppy school at the George Vowell Centre on Nepean Hwy Mt. Eliza. It would be great for your son to show off his handsome hound.
