I'd go EF but only an EF2 as these got XR6 running gear that totally transformed the car. No major differences between EF2 and EL and personally i prefer the black switch gear of the EF anyway

i might be in the same boat as you soon, thats IF your in the market for an AU fairmont ghia.
personally i would go the AU all the way, anything older is just a waste of time and money. The price of the AU's have come down heaps!!! i am sure you can pick up a good condition AU fairmont for about 15G's even cheaper, but you get what you pay for! then all you have to do is lower it, put some big wheels on it, maybe a bodykit!!!!!! hope i sway your decision!! Id probably go the EF2 or the EL for the reasons mentioned in the second post. They are pretty damn cheap these days , a good one with 140,000 would probably only set you back 7-8k. This should leave you with some extra cash to fix any problems or do any mods, as opposed to buying an AU which may be a bit more reliable but a fair bit more expensive.
Best of lucky with the buy anyway, they are all good cars and there is no shortage of them. I thought i might add, you could probably get a NF/NL Fairlane for the same price as a Fairmont Ghia

Keep looking for the car you want, if its the right colour, drive it, then if you like the way it drives, buy it.. simple!!!!!!!!
or is that female logic? Do you go to the auctions? You can sometimes pick up an awesome car at a bargain price and then you will have money left to do other stuff you blokes like doing to cars : I prefer EFs myself but that may change next year!!!! |
