Default Need a good panel beater

G'day lads, i've had my xb sedan for about 4 months and have finaly got the money together to get the rust cut out of it. i bought ot from an old bloke who took it into a chop shop to get it rust free and it got bogged up and sprayed and now its all come back pretty bad. Its arount the bottom of the doors, boot seal lip, sills etc and i dont want to get ripped off and dont know any blokes with a good reputation on the Gold Coast. So i am hoping someone might be able to help me out. If you know of anyone who does a good job with zero bog on the Gold Coast or surrounding areas, please let me know. Cheers, Jordan.

Any panel beater who does this job "bog free" is either lead-wiping, or using fairy dust!

If the rust has come back, it wasn't treated properly in the original 'chop shop' job. If they cut back to bare metal, it should be treated ASAP before painting. Bog doesn't rust, it's the metal exposed to oxygen that does.

I can only imagine how much it will cost to get the rust cut out properly... maybe a small house deposit... You would be better off learning to do the job yourself.

sorry i dont know of any panel beaters in Qld... however they say Rust is like cancer, very hard to cure. If its been bogged and has re-appeared then it wasnt repaired properley in the 1st place. Swanny is right, it will cost you basically a house deposit to get it repaired. You may want to look down the avenue of a new shell, or yeah learning to do it yourself, the later would be far more rewarding.

Pity your not in NSW, I would be able to do it for you over the course of a weekend for a few hundred bucks. Our factory lost our foreman a couple of years ago and as a result I had to learn to mig and tig weld mild steel and stainless. On recent jobs I've done I've not even needed bog to get the panels perfect. (A brother in law gave me a ford escort that was rusted to the core, and I had to fix it).

I'd suggest maybe a tafe course, and alot of patience. Go to George Ward for the steel though, and get some 0.9 or 1.2mm galvabond, as this will negate the need to seal the inside unexposed and unpainted area.
