Default My First drive in a stroker...

hey all,

Saturday night at a mates party out in whoop whoop, a friend of mine turned up in a rather beefy sounding VK, clearly a V8, i just asked him if it was a 308 or a 350 or whatever.. and he said its a stroked 308/355...

Anyhow i asked him if he could take me for a burst up the road.. and he did.. and honestly i was left rather disapointed... i was waiting for something to happen and nothing did, sounded tough, real tough but just didnt have any go.. and im not being biased.. but it just felt like a tricked up 5L..
i have another mate thats has a wrx, he went for a run in it aswell and he too was very unimpressed by it..
I dunno whats going on, but from what ive read and heard stroked motors are supposed to go?!?!?

Im sure it would have more go then those wussy 4L Falcons I see everyday. lol

Just joking.

Hmmmm wasnt it very fast at all for a stroker?

Maybe you need to go for a ride in a few more strokers.

depends on the back end ratio.. A lazy 2.?? diff wouldn't pull the skin off custard in any car.. There is so much more to how hard a car goes than the engine in it

doesn't sound right. An average 355 will have 450hp @ the fly. Well it should if it hasn't it's a badly researched engine.

Correct, its not just the cubes, but the whole combination.

Those old V8s are all noise and no guts.
Once you drive an LS1 with some basic mods anything with less cubes just doesnt cut it. :

There is a member here who's 308 non stroked Street Reg LH Torana eats LS1's alive, it was the Heathcote Ford Forum day last year. :
Stiddy there is something wrong with that VK, it should pull low 12's or high 11's at least.

No the blue one, 11:50 @ 119 with stuffed trans, no forced induction or gas, he just fitted a powerglide and is looking for 10's.

What else was done to it besides the stroker kit? Stroking is just capacity increase... it won't suddenly make the car superfast.

Yep .. I had a 440 (7.2L) .. with 8-3/4 diff with 3.23's .. in a '69 Dodge Phoenix. It wasn't particularly fast. I was fun, and could scare out of other cars .. but wasn't that fast. Modern cars with OD trans and steep gearing can outrun most "built" streetcars (ie. not dragcars with 4.11s, etc)

i dont know exactly whats been done to it, but he said theres 10k worth of motor sitting in the front.. and when looking at it from what i saw, it had a high rise manifold, and a 650holley carby sticking through the bonnet with a nice big chrome airfilter on top.. and from listening to it, it was VERY lumpy.. so it has to have some sort of high performance cam.. but yeah.. revs hard(7000rpm), sounds mean, goes no where..

Could be poor timing holding it back... poor compression... all sorts of things

A poorly researched motor it sounds like it is. A $10,000 slug. $10,000 now days is instant 11's in a V series Commodore.
