Im looking at buying an AU2 Sedan, 6 Cyl with 183000 on the clock.
It shifts hard from first to second. Would a transmission oil and filter change fix this problem or is it a worn out box? |

ECU / trans retrain may fix that. Mine shifted hard but improved significantly once I did a retrain.
May also be due to the way I drive, I don't just shove the pedal to 60% and keep it there, I press it a bit to get going, then after a moment press it harder. In economy mode the first shift happens way too soon, sometimes in the middle of pressing harder. Lurch lurch |

There's a recent thread (search for S5 Solenoid) .... there's a listing there on what all the solenoids do ... S5 regulates shift firmness.

I think i was too hard on the car, as in looking for things to fault. when I went and picked it up, it was cold as a stone and was fine. I drove it home (50-60) ks and was a good drive.
Apart from the paintwork, best buy at 400 bux!!! |

My xr8 will shift hard into second sometimes. If i leave standstill with light throttle application and then have to lift a little before the 2nd gear shift it will thump, hopefully a service may improve it but my gut says it may be more substantial.

my money is on s5 also
does it flare from second to third and occasionally slam 4th? my EL's s5 went recently after a transmission service, and is still faulty as we speak. Makes for a sporty drive!

S5 is for shift pressure of EVERY gear.
S4 is the band pressure switcher, it switches from full pressure to S5 pressure on gear change, but if it was faulty it would also effect 3-4th. I would give the trans a good service first. And reset the EEC.
