Best to check that the heater pipe isnt rusted at the end where it fits into the o-ring (as mine does). If it is rusting there you will probably find a new o-ring wont solve the problem.
Suggest you first try a cooling system hole sealer as the hole may be just fine enough that this will solve the problem. (here is an example http://www.oneforceaustralia.com.au/...-system-repair) It's was a less-than-10-bucks solution, that worked for me. (Given its state, tho, I will be replacing the pump in due course when $$$ permit, along with all cooling system hoses, drive belt and pulleys, etc. I am progressively buying these items now so it isnt a big hit on my bank account all at once). If/when you do replace the pump, and the heater tube is rusty, you will have to cut off the end of the rusty end of the tube. This tube is no longer available from Ford spares and I doubt the wisdom of using a 2nd hand tube. My plan is to thread the hole in the back of water pump and fit a brass barbed-fitting with cooling system sealant. ... NOTE: THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE MAY NOT BE THE CORRECT SIZE ... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170900774...84.m1436.l2649 I'll then close the system using a short-as-possible cooling system hose, and double-clamp each end along with some cooling system sealant. I only use a bit of sealant around the o-ring so it seals perfectly and lasts me a few years.
The last water pump I did (funnily enough in my car) I didn't use any, and long behold I've got the same issue as TheInterceptor does now. The surface was perfect, as was the pipe, but the pipe always has the possibility to leak. Awesome, you coming up here to do the full major or what? Edit: I've got a brand new heater tap here FYI.
