Not a bad read. Not sure how factual what he says is, but it's nice to hear something besides all the squealing going on from vested interests.

I was listening to someone on the radio this afternoon going on about the down-days Ford has announced and their record low Falcon sales, all thanks to the dang guv'ment. Yeah right, I'm sure they have nothing at all to do with the closure and new-model-around-the-corner announcements...

Just read it, while I generally agree with what he has to say one glaring hole he didn't mention is those people who previously, could only afford a 2nd hand car but due to novated leasing, could now afford a NEW car, that was my situation when I first did it and everyone I know who has done it are exactly the same, therefore i'd suggest this holstered sales of locally built cars!!

Yes they got that report spot on, seen this where I worked as people in upper management went from Berlina to Lexus, Fairlane to Mercedes then Lexus, Commodore to Prado just to mention a few. Around where I live I've never before seen so many upmarket imported cars, suv and 4wd yet few new Falcon or Commodore.
Although in my travels outside Sydney I still see the caravans up to about 18ft being hauled by the Falcon or Commie which is going to leave probably only 2 choices in the future.

interesting reading the comments in that article posted by Illavitar , one of the commenters stated with the lease the employer pays 46 % tax, so govco misses out on nothing, so really it is another wealth relocation scheme by govco ??? or have i got it wrong ???

But if no-one takes up a lease, the govt. will lose more. Zero tax from both employee and employer

Think about salary packaging and employees who in those days would be in that 46% tax bracket regardless,

It was just shifting tax form column A to column B, something the employee would have needed to pay anyway
