Hey guys bought some 2nd hand tickford au2 wheels for my forte.
I think the tyres are compromising my ride comfort. Run 34 PSI all round and the tyres are on the worn side. Good year front and just some generics on the back. Looking at replacing the tyres but don't know what would be best, Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone? |

I'd get a wheel alignment first to try and work out why they are wearing on the side. otherwise, same will happen to your replacement tyres.

Worn on the side when I bought the wheels.
Although I do need a wheel alignment but im changing all ball joints a week or so in the new year so no point to get one just yet. Just want some recommendations on tyres and info on whats best for comfort/grip/no road noise |

If your looking for comfort & quietness there are no tyres better then the Yokohama 551 db
Believe me they are the best by a long way, BUT your gonna pay for the privilege. I have them on my XR6 turbo & they trans formed the car. But again they are not cheap. hope this helps.. http://www.yokohama.com.au/Tyres/ADVAN-dB.aspx

Definitely does mate, don't understand how mates can drive on cheap crappy tyres that cost $100-150, I love a nice soft comfortable quiet ride!
Do you mind me asking how much you paid for your tyres? Just want an idea. |

I paied $265 a tyre, but mine are 245-35-19,
so a 235-45-17 would be much cheaper. I'd guess under $200 a tyre, but you wont regret it..

I am running Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on my XR. I got them for $216 a tyre. Also Bridgestone Adrenalin RE002 are good tyres also.

Run 30PSI as the manufacturer recommendation more grip and comfort, i check it every week as i check the pressure when i fill up each week but i just live around the corner from the servo so the tyre temp is still cold.

If theyre 8" wide rims you should be able to fit a 245/45/17 as well. Theyre a more common tyre size now as they fit them to the first FG XR6's, are both wider and taller than the 235's so will be both more comfortable and provide more grip.

245s will be fine mate. As for pressure? you really need to work that out, your tyres will tell you if they are to hard or to soft by eneven ware. 34/36psi in the Yokohama's would be my starting point..

As a big fan of Yokohama tyres since 1994 and running the V550Db on the XR6 I can honestly say that after three years of Topend monsoons and dry seasons you would be hard pressed to find anything better, wet or dry - YMMV
Cheers Vincenzo - personally I use 32psi - 34psi around town and 36psi on trips
