Default Is this the best car security?

I went out for a mates catchup in kings cross last night. Parked my car on darlinghurst rd near that seedy park with the homeless people. A few years ago my mates car was stolen almost from the same spot I parked.

There was a homeless guy sitting on a small stone fence of the park staring my way.. I had a few beers in the car.

so I gave him a beer, bag of smiths salt n vinegar chips and about $5 in coins that I could find. I asked him to watch my car for me and that I wouldnt be too long.

he said no worries. I went out with my mates and forgot all about it.

about 3 hours later i returned to my car and the homeless guy was still there. I forgot all about it. I certainly didnt expect he wait there, i just didnt want him to rob me or damage my car as he would see me walk off into the night leaving the car. He says to me, noone went anywhere near your car. I thanked him and said if he is here next week ill probably be back.

another time I took with me about 15 pairs of shoes some of them brand new that id never ever worn. Basically a waldrobe cleanout. I gave them to another homeless guy to watch my car. But this guy wasnt there when I returned (but he made off with the shoes)

is this the best car security in one of the most seedy areas in the country?

I would've thought having you standing or waiting next to a car asking pointless questions of passers-by would be better car security; on second thoughts, that might just cause an increase in the rate of self inflicted harm.

Everyone should give something..

If everyone handed over a dollar as they walked by these homeless people could live, most just power walk past thinking they are gonna get robbed.

I get car security, he got a few dollars and a beer, don't see the issue.

Why are they homeless ... offer them your home ?

I get car security, he got a few dollars and a beer, don't see the issue.

I don't provide to the needy to protect my car
This hit's an all time ??? for you Joe ?

Firstly you are posting like you are so much better off than others and this is some small way to compensate?

Secondly if you are that cashed up , take all the homeless you come across into BIG Maccas and shout them all a Mc Happy meal ??

Thirdly park your car where it might actually be safe .. ya know like in your garage ???

And call a taxi ...

A very unusual observation

If I was someone with a view of the plight of the homeless Id likely argue giving a homeless person a beer is not a particularly sound decision though undoubtedly well intentioned.

so you're too cheap to hire a security guard or catch a taxi so you use the available cheaper 'help'.

the place you 'parked' is called 'The Wall' and it's where men used to stop to pick up young male prostitutes. It's changed a lot and is hardly a dangerous spot to leave a car. You're local Westfield is probably a higher risk spot for car theft.

I'm puzzled what you think the homeless guy could have done to stop someone breaking into your car anyway?

and yes you're possibly contributing to alcoholism too.....

Possibly, or until the guy with the salt and vinegar chips and a fist full of coins, hear`s on the grapevine that you gave his buddy 15 pairs of shoes for less work.

I just leave a note on the dash that the vehicle has done 200000km and has been tuned with a Quarterhorse.
Hasn't been touched yet.
Obviously no thief is going to take a car that is going to break down or explode (most likely both) 20m down the road due to the km and tuning method................

These were my first thoughts.

You're setting up a poor homeless dude for a potential bashing.

A homeless person isn't a security guard...

I would of thought if anyone was going to steal/damage the car it will either be the homeless guy doing it or he'll be helping a thief mate steal it

If I were the homeless guy I'd have given the whole lot to the next passing bogan and asked them to flog the car in exchange.
Now that would be an evenings entertainment.
