For those who may have missed it, there was a write up on Dick Johnson in last weekends The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Weekend Magazine.

I remember that ex-boyfriend's crash well. I lived 3 doors from the Walkers and there was this absolutely stunning EH (might have been a Premier) wrapped around a pretty big tree between their place and mine. The guy was a fruit loop.

I,m not sure what that Herald article is all about really! It's not new news & without any real input from the Johnson family. Most of it was old news from his books just rehashed.
DJ hasn't been well & has spent plenty of time recently in hospital, but now without the pressure of keeping his team alive, I just hope Dick & Jill can, when he recovers, just kick back & enjoy life a little. Probably something they really haven't done for the past 10 or so years. Just thinking though, maybe all those incidents he had in life are starting to take there toll! Think back to that Bathurst crash in 1983. How he survived that crash is just amazing! But to think Dick, who can't remember much about the incident after suffering concussion, pretty much stayed up all night while they built Greens tuf Mk11, then was on the grid at 10am the next morning to drive for the Bathurst 1000. Unheard of in 2015 & if he was playing NRL, they would drag him off & make him sit out a week. We all marvel about what the team did that weekend in rebuilding the race car, maybe we under estimated what Dick did that weekend on a personal note. Dick is a living Ford legend & the main reason why I'm a Ford man today, so it saddens me to hear how tough he is still doing it at 70 years of age. He has given most of us on here, along with Allan Moffat, so much plessure watching there feats driving the Ford product. Just wish he would kick back now & enjoy life a little!

Rob 351, he and Jilly are starting to kick back a bit. He had some post-operation problems with his knee and hip but is over those now and is making progress.

Dick never gave up on any of us; his supporters. Just turn up and if Dick is there, he will always give you some of his time.

A fair while ago one of the members here organised an All Ford Day, I believe a number of motoring celebrities were contacted. They all wanted appearance money.
DJ was the ONLY one who offered to do it for expenses only, he also got his merchandise truck to attend.

Yeah that's how fresh the paint was buggerlugs. The footage from that sunday morning at bathurst when Dick brought Mk11 onto the grid is enough to send shivers up your spine. To see every team along pit lane stop & applaud Dick & #17 as it made it's way through the grid to it's starting position on number 10 is unbelievable. Every Flaggie, fan whether blue or red stood & applauded that day!
Imagine that today, firstly they wouldn't bother fixing the car... eg. car #2 last year when it crashed on the friday, then secondly the driver would need 3 weeks off because they chipped a nail! I can remember when the brakes failed on TRU BLU at Surfers in an AEC race at the end of 81 & she rolled over onto it's roof late while leading. The car & driver were on the grid less then 7 days later at Calder for the AGP support race. There wasn't 50-60 people in the team back then, probably just Dick, Roy & Dyno & a few volunteers working on that car & the last thing they would have been thinking about at the time was DJ's health. Totally remarkable.

Ross brought the ex Bob Morris/Alan Jones XE from Andrew Harris for DJ to race on sunday. Ross also bought a Commodore of another privateer to replace the Falcon for Andrew Harris to race the 1000 on sunday.
Big winner was Andrew Harris as iirc, finished inside the top ten for the 83 Bathurst 1000 in the VH Commodore.
