Question Vavle Train Noise.

Hi Guys,

Quick question here - I have a recently purchased 2002 BA Fairmont Ghia the power plant is a 220Kw 3 valve 5.4 litre V8 engine. I had an NRMA inspection done the other day and as one of the warranty points the inspector put "moderate engine valve train type noise". What could be causing that ?? :

Question Valve Train Noise.

Thanks for the reply - are you trying to tell me it is just the injectors and not the hydraulic lifters ?? I don't know where the NRMA inspector looked, but I thought he would know the difference between injectors and some other valve train noise. What components make up this valve train anyway ??

AFAIK, there are no hydraulic lifters (enter correction here if wrong) in the 3-valve motor. The valve train is composed of one overhead cam, 3 valves per cylinder, rocker arm assembly (the rockers might have lifters in 'em like in the E-series sixes) I might be leaving something out.

The 220 engine does have more mechanical noise then say the I6, but without listening to your it's impossible to tell if the sound is abnormal. Try to compare it to another. There are no real concerns with the 3 valve engine.
