Default Forte and XR gearbox

Got an AU II wagon and wanted to know the difference between the forte box and XR box. Does the forte box to change from D to 3, or from 3 to 2 you need to push the button in. And on an XR gearbox you don't. I can change down gears without pushing the button in and wanted to know (because I have been told) that I have an XR gear box.

Thanks

Box's are same, it's all in the electronics. XR's have adaptive shift in 3 modes all others have econ switching on or off.

Quick check if you have an XR box - the XR's don't have an Econ button.

Some XRs do have the econ/power button. Pretty sure the HPs do (at least for AU1, if not 2/3).

Plus I know of one XR8 in particular that does, and another one that's about to get it - but it switches the ESS controls on and off, so doesn't really work as an Econ/power button at all.

Not the case AFAIK (and believe me, I should know!). The econ button is not there, but there should be, on the console, a (semi) Tickford badge in black and red on AU1 XR autos.

Have never seen or heard of the econ button in a genuine AU1 XR. If you have seen one, query whether the car is real. FWIW, you can put them into econ mode by following a special procedure.

My XR car is soon to get an econ power button to turn the ESS sports shift on the momo steering wheel on/off. Still a few weeks away yet, but as soon as it's a goer, everyone will know about it!

If its got an economy switch... its stock. No switch, Tickford. Difference, minimal.
