How do I reset the ECU? I'm thinking that reseting it may help my rough idle issue.

took some pics the other day so dad could see it. (he lives interstate.)
It's just a bog standard dark blue AU series 1 Forte. Complete with car door and shopping trolley dings and scratches. It's by no means in fantastic shape. I'll post the pics if you want, but it's nothing flash I promise! I'd love to catch the mod bug, but a wife and 2 small kids keep my ever opened wallet rather empty. Any spare cash is getting saved for flying lessons, but even that's been put on hold, because I have to use what I had saved to buy this AU! I do like it though. There's a small tear (more like a worn out seam) on the drivers seat, and the lid of the centre console is broken at the hinge, so thjose are the things I'll get fixed first when funds and time allows. I have done one mod already though! When I went and bought the new set of leads to try and fix the rough idle (which it had no effect on) I bought a steering wheel cover that looks like one of those flash polished wood steering wheels! :sm_headba :sm_headba |

Once reconnected do the following: AUTO Transmission: - Start car and idle in this sequence? - 2 minutes idling with the transmission in drive and A/C on. - 2 minutes idling with the transmission in drive and A/C off. - 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C on. - 2 minutes idling with the transmission in neutral and A/C off. - Drive the car on the road, for at least 5 minutes under variable throttle positions. When the AC Compressor Kicks in, the ECU should automatically adjust the idle to compensate for the extra load,
Having a cam installed, it may be just be Freaking Out ! Or it could be something inside the compressor *Call an AC guy out to check compressor ** take it back to the tuner and reconfigure the idle with AC on

Before I do though i want to eliminate some variables first. It idles ok with the cam with AC off so should do so with it on. So don’t think it’s the tune/cam. Base idle may not be right (what rpm is right for a manual v8? Would like to reset the ecu too but want to verify the procedure for a manual. Appreciate the help and hope all enjoy their Easter! |

Has the hunting with air-con on only started since the cam/tune was done? If so I'd agree with NC11 - it's most likely the tune.
Or was everything ok and then it started this issue all of a sudden? I had the same issue you're describing (idle fine with air-con off, but hunted like mad with the extra load of the air-con) with an early tune on my ute before having the tune modified. Instantly fixed it.

Good question.
Car was bought with the issue so when the symptoms first started is hard to say. In theory the tune is via a unichip but haven’t located it. Dosnt appear to be in the lower left kick panel. Ideally would like to locate it and isolate it. Any ideas? Knowing the procedure for an ecu reset on a manual is also appreciated as per my query above. Thanks All. |
