In the Joh era Brisbane people thought that southerners were commie homo tree-hugging weirdoes - but that's what NQ people thought about Brissy folk. Strange eh.
Back then Qld = conservative verging on redneck, but WA = conservative but tolerant. |

Well if you looked at a map of Tasmania you’d have to say that Hobart must be a **** of a place but it’s really quite lovely.
Except for the occasional miserable overcast windy or sleety days - but wet is often good down there. |

Qld had ports instead of suitcases and pushies instead of bikes.
The regional stuff can be confusing. When I was a newly-arrived hippie in Fremantle people were always talking about going to or coming from Denmark. I wondered about the fascination with Scandinavia - the Freetown Christiania commune perhaps ? Later discovered that there’s a town on the south coast called Denmark ... |

Noooooo !!!!! One of those northerner types.
The Hobart - Lonny antagonism matches the Sydney - Melbourne rivalry. But is it possible to be 200 km from Hobart and not be in the ocean ? ;-) |

Our Labor Premier, mr Magoo, recently won a massive landslide, based on a single policy. Officially known as "The Rest of Australia can F_ck Off" WA never wanted to be part of Australia. Read the Constitution, we were not included, and were only to be added if we informed the Queen of such a desire. A referendum was supposedly held, and somehow ran completely contrary to public opinion at the time. Depending on which version you believe for this turn around, it was either a fraud, or the vote was turned by the Goldfields, where the Federalists bribed the inhabitants by promising to deport all the non-whites. Hardly surprising then, that in the 30's WA voted in a Referendum to leave the Commonwealth. Ironically the only reason we're still part of the Federation is because in those days the final say rested with the Privy Council. It didn't help matters that in the following war, Canberra's official policy was to abandon WA to the Japanese. There is only one road connecting WA to the other states, and that wasn't sealed until the 1970's. Perth is over 3,000km from Canberra. (Jakarta is marginally closer.) |

But there is a road connecting WA to the NT.
Emperor Magoo has truckloads of political capital he could expend on progressive policies but hey - it’s WA ... He’s a pollie so he’ll not risk a single vote by doing anything risky to ensure re-election. Then he’ll be parachuted into Canberrastan as the new strongman of the glorious workers’ party. Which doesn’t give a rat’s about anything except factional struggles, preselection for safe seats, and fat remuneration packages followed by lucrative positions in industry. Luckily the other mob aren’t like that. Oh wait .... Last edited by shedcoupe; 23-07-2021 at 01:55 PM. Reason: can’t spell good |
