Hi All, Just checking if the T3 TE50's were able to tow? I have seen a review and the T3 TS50 manual shows a big X through the tow page, was this the same for the TE? And if so why would Ford not allow them to be used to tow trailers etc?

my understanding is the manuals had a lower tow rating due to being manual with the clutch as the weak link?. |

Interesting thread.
I vividly remember my uncle was keen to buy one back when they were new, but the need to tow a speedboat made him choose something else. Ford were very specific with him that the T3 could not be fitted with a tow bar. He ended up with a 5.0L Fairmont Ghia with a Havoc kit.

Yep is in the TE, TS T3 and P250. No towing.
I think you will find that that was cancelled. The main reason I beleive it was to do with the T3 / P250 road height. Thrre are T3 and P250 that tow with some of the towbar fitted by Ford. In all cars a manual will always have a lower towing limit to a automatic. Manual around 1200kg ( I think ) and the auto. 2300kg for Fords.

A bit clearer now. So if you were buying a T Series and it had a tow bar there would be no issues with it?

For me, the issue would be cutting into a rare and irreplaceable rear bumper specific to T-Series. Not sure why you would want to be towing something with a performance car?

It was a performance car back then. These days it’s a big boofy sedan with a bit of grunt… seems perfect for towing the trailer to the tip on sundays. If I had a t3 these days, and it was regularly driven (not just an ornament) the original bumpers would be off and stored safely, and I’d be running fibreglass copies on the street. |

Myself personally, i wouldn't cut into the bumper either but its already there, so no choice if i pull the the trigger on the purchase. I won't be towing anything with it that's for sure. Makes sense to replace with the fiberglass copies and save the originals.
