I just got back from marching in the city in Sydney. It felt fantastic. THanks to all those who came into the city to partake in the services and the march and cheering us on.

I attend dawn service every year I can. This year was the first I had attended at the Shrine in Melbourne. Very moving service, I believe there were over 50000 people present.

It was also the first time I had worn with honour my great uncle's medals. Darby JAMES served in the 2nd 23rd Infantry Battalion 9th Division for the whole war from the Western Desert at Tobruk to the jungles of Borneo. Darby is one that has never marched on Anzac day, one that was much affected by the horrors of war. He turns 95 this year. I am grateful Darby and his sister Ivy, my Nana, allowed me to wear his service medals.

Very impressive numbers also this morning at the Martin Place Cenotaph, where I attended this years' Dawn Service. It looked like 20,000+.

Sadly this morning one of the ex war men passed away at the dawn service in Auckland.

It was my first ever dawn service today. My g/f was playing trumpet in the service band.

I had no idea the Korean soldiers were part of the service. Its only recent that the turkish soldiers were allowed to march as well I think.

This is easliy my best ANZAC day yet. For those who don't know I'm currently at Kapooka doing my basic training. A few guys were selected from each platoon here for cataflaque parties around the place, mostly in small towns around the place. My platoon got the gig at Kapooka. I got on the party.

So there the 5 of us were, freezing out tits off at 0500, rest on arms for a good 40 minutes while everything went on. I couldn't feel my fingers but who bloody cares.

First ANZAC day in the green skin and it bloody ruled. I'm still 10 feet tall after getting congrats on the job from the CSM and our platoon sergeant. Best feeling ever.

Now I'm off to do what any good digger will be doing now and sink ИИИИ.

I was part of the catafauq (sp?) party here in townsville for the maggie island ANZAC dawn service.

It was very honorable to represent the diggers who died serving our country.
I love this day, always brings people together.

How far are you into it already? Must be atleast a few weeks already if you have computer access. (limited)

We're in week 5 now, bayonet assualt course on Thursday. LF4 tomorrow.

And I'm a sucker for punishment. I marched out in October 2003 as a choco. I'm back as ARA, but they're making me do the lot again. PITA but ah well.

One thing that really made me mad was last year at Gallipoli when the Aussies went over for anzac day and after the ceremony, they left their rubbish and alcohol laying everywhere.

I swear people in general are such fvcking PIGS!
No respect or consideration whatsoever. Same for the people who choose to ignore or acknowledge this day of honour.
They dont deserve to live in this beautiful country.

I was at the ANZAC day parade at The War Memorial in Canberra this morning. I have no ANZACS in my family, but my gradnfather did fight for the British Imperial Army(India). And I was there this morning to watch my uncle place a wreath amongst other dignitaries(Bangladesh High Commisioner), the feeling is beyond words. I only wonder whats it like for those who make the pilgrimage to ANZAC COVE.

War is terrible, it brings out the worst in people, but it also has the ability to bring out the very best, one quote that always strikes my mind when i think of the ANZACS is by not an Australian, rather a foe.

Kemal Ataturk(father of modern Turkey) said in 1934 in gallipoli

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well."

Humble respects to Australians of the past from a new Australian.

It's nice to read so many people's own feelings on what is, IMHO, probably the most important day in our nation, and it's fantastic to see the re-vitalised interest in ANZAC Day that has taken place over the last few years.

My family has a LOOOOOONG line of service history, as I'm sure alot of us have, from Great Grandfathers and others in WW1, many family members in WW2 (1 of which spent 4 years as a POW in the Changi camp, and on the Burma railway), and an Uncle in Korea, to my own Dad who served in Vietnam. I myself, enlisted in the RAAF about 12 years ago, but met a girl at the 11th hour, and changed my mind. How many times have we heard that!!
And yes, that same girl is now my beautiful wife...

While I think of the efforts of my Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, and Dad from time to time, there isn't may of them left now to really thank in person, but I still had a good chat with Dad today...

I marched today for my late Grand Father Alf Duval RIP for the 2/5th Field Regiment 7th Devision. Have been marching for 3 years and will always be there (until I am told I cant be). Have always gone to the Regimental lunchan and had a beer with the regiment. They can talk for hours but never about the war. I was close to my grand father and ANZAC means a lot to me.

It is really moving being out there in front of thousands of people cheering. Now I have never been to war and have never gone through what these guys went through. They did it for mateship and their country. It is good to see the Diggers going and shaking the children's hands as they march past.

When you look at the state of things that have happened lately (chronulla riots, redfern riots, gang rapes ect) people need to pull their head in. The older generation didn't put their life on the line so you can act like this. (Not accusing any members here of being involved, but as a generalisation).

I have been to Turkey, France and Belgem. The battlefields that so many lives are lost. If you haven't been, go, not now, not tomorrow but go over there and see for yourself what our soldiers had to do. The land is scared with what has happened. You will fing the locals, Turks in particular very very friendly. That have a lot of respect for Australians. They go out of their way to help you.

I must admit that I do wonder just how many 'young' guys around today, of the age that many of our war dead were, would make the same sacrificies that the ANZACS did, even more so in today's climate of threat after threat from those that want the world their own way...??

I went to the morning service in town here, just seeing all the diggers marching proudly put a tear in my eye and a shiver down my spine. One onlooker said to me "What will happen when they are all gone?".

I pray that we never forget, and that as a nation we begin to realise that all our Veterans are our National Treasures. Throughout the 105 years we have been a country they have given so much to make it possible for us to enjoy the simple things freedom can bring. All of our Veterans have paid an unimaginable toll for our freedom, and it is our chance on days like ANZAC Day to say thank you to those who, by God's grace, were returned to us unharmed, and honour and remember those who were not, and thank the ones who are in harm's way, serving today, wherever they may be.
