I bought my car off an old bloke who had looked after it his whole life. He only ever had put 24000 miles on the thing and looks just about new. I paid him $7000 he wanted for it and as I was driving it up the road he watched it go all the way with a real sad look on his face. It was that well looked after and all I had to do was get the carby rebuilt due to lack of use.

We had a bloke in West that had a genuine XY GT HO. Damn that thing was immaculate. And i tell ya now, he drove it like it was a weapon. He would sit at light's and upset the young blokes, or pull up behind you along the highway then go flying past when you least expect it.
It was good to see an 86yr old that could still change gears like it was a race.

There's a bloke I know who's retired now, who I used to work with, I caught up with him recently, after about 18 years of being away.
Anyway, he was driving the car his wife bought back around '68 (one of the first Corolla's). I soon found out he still had the XY Fairmont they bought new, as well as a Pajero bought in '85. All of them are in perfect nick! |

I know of a couple of cars in Adelaide recently, a green S series Valiant that was a one owner immaculate sold for $16,000 an R series I know of still has the plastic on the rear door trims, and about 12,000 miles on the odo, just goes to church and back on sundays.
And at Westfield Marion every so often you can see a Merc. 2 door AMG 55 driven by a lady ind her 70's. Regards Prof. Rabbit |

Who cares who owns them or how old they are, the more old cars out there on the road the better, who wants to drive the road and see plastic cars, wouldnt it be great to be able to go for a drive and only see pre 1980 cars or earlier!

i got a killer story for ya's and its true.. i seen it in the herald sun a little while ago and a mate talked to her, they were in bendigo one sunday morning when a MINT, manual, XY GTHO pulled in, after they picked their jaws off the ground, an old lady about 75 got out in her bowling whites and she told them that her husband bought it brand new and it has never seen weekday driving. she only drives to bowls on sundays, the husband died about 10 years ago and she has it serviced every 5000k's. its been kept under a cover since they bought it home. She has been offered $250,000 for it but will never sell it. oh and she still has all the books, reciepts, and the original tyres at her house..

I my opa (german grandfather) had a 1970's 4 door monaro V8, yellow and black since new. He sold it a few years before he recently passed away.
He lived in Ballarat and the cops used to hassle him a fair bit in his later years, "Is this your car?" Yes it is. "How long have you had it?" 20 years!. Obviously his sons (my uncles) had borrowed the car on occasion and got a bit of a reputation. That thing was smick. Sold it for next to nothing. We were all spewing chips because us youngins wanted to keep it but didn't have to cash to do so. Sold it for like 3 grand. Origonal everything. No rust, nothing cracked on the interior, no fading. Exterior was mint too. When I worked at a servo one older guy had a completely smick 1970's Volvo in dark green. The paint work was fantastic, as was the chrome. His first set of tyres (OEM michelens) lasted 120,000 miles!! |

There was an old lady that lived in yass that had got an FJ brand new, and used to drive it in canberra. She drove it for a few years but then got confused by the installation of a set of traffic lights, so she garaged it and covered it with a knitted wool rug until a few years back. Sold it to some guy in imaculate condition - never been restored, perfect condition, original paint...

My Grandfather recently decided that his EBII XR6 5 speed wasn't economical enough so traded it on a new Pulsar! The thing that killed me though was that it was a one owner car, with a genuine 93,000km's on the odometer. He got about $3500 for it and didn't tell any of us he was selling it, otherwise I would have bought it in a flash. And yes it was immaculate.

My dad traded his 86' Fairlane for only $2000, it was in such good condition. A shame really, he wished he kept it for me because i like the 80's Fords.

Im sure there will be. My mother refuses to get rid of her 90's daihatsu charade. Its hardly immacualte though.
Whenever I see some older gent or lady driving their immacualte classic around, I think, I wonder how much they would take for it.
