Default Modern take on a good ol Pommy Morris van.

Wouldn't mind one of these, retro curb appeal, recycled carbon body on an aluminium frame, vibrant colours, British built, 1 ton payload.

Yes! You'd fit right into the blossoming longboard surf scene with one of those Rokwiz

It's crazy Franco where we've just been: you see all the top of the range decked out two tone Transporters (what, 90K or more?) in the beach carparks and the beautiful young ladies either resting or out on their longboard wearing very little and surfing gracefully... the longboards themselves are a couple of grand these days...

Who knows where the money comes from? I am not complaining. Flute was good though, I find I get more emotional listening to this version than the one in the movie.

Edit: same link Rokwiz posted.
He mentions there are a huge amount of orders, I can see this being very popular. Love the old one!

I think you are right! OK, we're going to take a small aside from the excellent Morris van concept, and the craze for top-end vans, and go have a look at the customer segment that buys them.

...but you can see how the product placement (if worked hard enough to enough followers) might be able to afford a 90K van - particularly on finance!

Our trip wasn't so far as Byron or Broken, but we did get the photoshoot walk past us, heavily pregnant bikini'd murfer with longboard and attendant photographer for beach sunset. It was beautiful, really. We also saw a van flash mob arrive on another day, all must have been keyed-in to a certain spot over insta, all arrived within 5 minutes as we were getting out. I can imagine how thrilled the 5 guys remaining in the quiet lineup must have been to have 20 glossed longboards arrive on their little spot within 5 minutes and have it descend into a retro-cool chaos...

There's the imagery, then there's the reality.

Yep, Vanlifer's on youtube paint a great picture of something like no one has ever done before.

Its a bit the same way they advertise caravans, beachfront camping drinking their wine over a beautiful sunset with not a sole around.
Half the places you go to have NO CAMPING OR STAYING IN VEHICLES OVERNIGHT signs stuck everywhere, particularly in GSS NSW.

Yes, my mate wanted to go camping with his BIL and combined kids “somewhere we can light a bonfire on the beach”.

Also, doesn't NSW charge for access to national parks? Or is that the same nationally? I'm not really keen on paying to enter a forest just quietly.

You can buy a Parks pass in NSW, it’s to do with vehicular access rather than personal movement.

Yeah but in NSW it isn't just NPWS it's almost every little spiny council and their Rangers. Who don't want you spending money in their town.
Even despite some displaying the "RV friendly town" sign.

Have 2 "freecamping" books bought years back. The NSW one is about 20 pages thick while the Vic one is a couple of hundred pages.

Would be lovely to park that Morry van looking over a great beach scene.

Yep I think there's a parks pass relevant to certain areas of NSW.

Just prior to covid down here the #vanlyfe got pretty hectic and when everything locked down the council actually padlocked and barricaded a road into a night sleeping hotspot. The vans became thin on the ground. Now it's game on once more, quite a few hired campers too. I really miss the Wicked Vans - no safety in a 1990s Hiace and vulgar sprays, the 'Old McDonald and his farm animals' one was a classic and something you wouldn't want children to see. Imagine it being your theme for your gap year around Oz...

Re: the freecamping bit, we've done quite a bit of it recently (helps knowing some pretty isolated country and roads)

We camped out over the SA cliffs about 10km east of Eucla, overlooking the beginning of the Roe Plain, magnificent views from the escarpment, setting sunset over the West, perfect place for a hard earned drink after a day's driving.

Had a look at a VW Transporter that was about to be converted into a camper and tbh I really liked it. Yikes.
