Default Air Cleaner Clips

G/day all
Has anyone fitted the spring type clips to their Au Series 1 air box cover?

I purchased four from Ford and when I go to fit them they do tend to fit, but it looks as though one good bump and they would spring off and when i do remove them they do not stay in place where they clip into on the bottom of the box,I unclip and they fall off.

They are about 50ml long, see pic.

I would imagine they would fit with the top (marked A) onto the top lid and the other at the bottom, however they dont fit that way, they will fit the other way around but they look real shonky on there?

Ok Thanks

there is 2 little grooves that the bottom part goes into(the part with the split in it)
then they just clip on

they do slip off when undoing i have noticed also
just give the box a good ol wiggle nad tug and see how it goes..
if it doesnt open it shouldnt while driving..
just check it every few days.. and if ur worried about them falling off.. tie some fishing line or string to all of them then to an anchor point so they wont fall off and get lost!!

actually mine look nothing like that (the pic didnt load wen i read the post the 1st time)

The car is on gas hence the need for these springs and the need to find out if I have been given the right ones :

Cart - they are the right ones, and you do fit them that way up (A at the top). I have them on mine, and while they are a little hard to fit, once you know how, it's a piece of p155. Bascially, the L part of the clip goes in to the normal clip position with the upright part in the middle of each position. It'sa too hard to explain properly - a pciture would be better; I'll see what I can do. I paid $16 for 4 (trade), so $5 each retail is about right.

Try this. Not the best pic, but hopefully you can see how the bottom L part of the spring clip hooks into the tabs that held the original clip in place.

is the spring part to release any sort of "backfire" that gas somtimes causes?(i had a ZL fairlane on gas and it used to pop 1 of the hoses off every now and again due to backfiring out the intake

Spot on. And it works too. I've had one reasonable backfire, and my airbox is intact.

Default Thanks

Thanks JC I get what u mean on how they fit, thanks for pic i could relate to it.

I actually took the springs back to ford as I was not wrapped in the way they fitted I went to buy 5 normal clips and they wanted $9.50 each for them
I ended up going to the wreckers and got them at $1 each.

But I will look at them again in case I get anymore backfires, hopefully i have fixed that problem with new leads.
I suppose at the time where the springs where concerned I had, had a gutfull of the problem if u get me....Thanks again
