The Damascus Steel looking knives were significantly more expensive to purchase. I really wanted one of those because I love the patterns. The one I have was still hand forged, but there was no other additional metals folded in to create the patterned process that usually is seen with a typical Damascus steel blade as shown below.

Beautifully crafted, that handle looks like Burl Walnut.

I love the way they produce that steel.

Not a photo I took, but a photo of yours truly.

This is inside a precipitator outlet duct. This duct carries any left over unburnts from the boiler after they've been run past the collector plates before entering the stack and being released to atmosphere. There are two of these ducts per unit. The hoods you can see down the length of the duct are the exit hood from the collector plate stream.

I was in there during a yearly unit outage to carry out inspections of turning vanes, dampers, walls, floors, braces etc for an upcoming major outage.

This space would normally be filled with noxious gases and dust, and be very warm!

It's a bit hard to read, but does that badge say "I am hard on the eye"?

It should say something like, "I'm hard to be hearing", and having met Cav, he's hard to walk with. He's really slow.

His favourite word? "Eh??"

2 things, 1stly, it's great to be able to put a face to the words, thanks.
2ndly, I thought I had the bestest job in the world, because I get an 'access all areas pass' when it comes to seeing things the average Joe doesn't get to see. (read, not you).
Great pic, thanks mate for sharing.

Not a good idea at all. At one of our sits, the lovely cat (Milton) would lie on the road outside their house. Several times I went and moved him off, bringing him back inside.

We heard only the other day he had been killed doing this again.

Not unusual after heavy rain and no sun with wooden boats after super hot days.
Hot sun on open wooden (or ply) decks open up seems particularly along the gunwales and around the stem. Only needs heavy rain to overwhelm the bilge pump and down she goes.

Though rare with plywood boats the sun's heat can pull hull panels apart.

Real wooden boats have the added problem of the original Oakum drying out in between the planking around the waterline area most effected by cool water and hot sun

edit. looks to be a liveaboard, like their Walker Bay sailing dinghy.

Got out for a walk with my mum and dog before it got too hot this am.

The closest beach is a small coastal hamlet, but it swells with holiday makers over summer. Despite that, I was still able to find a piece of the 90 mile stretch of beach where there was no one else in the immediate vicinity.

Grabbed a e&b from the general store and ate it by the beach. Beautiful way to start the day!

Yeah, that's the one. Holidayed there as a kid, spent many a day down there as a teenager, my mums friend had a holiday house there, went running there when the semi-lockdown covid was on.

Headed south from the township, past the creek and felt Iike we were the only ones on the whole 90 miles!
