Apparently the man was suffering depression and was drunk. I dont believe it had anything to do with Laidley, but even IF it did, I dont think Laidley should feel bad.

He wasn't a small fella. I thought it weird on the news last night when he just stood there and copped it from Laidley. I'm sure it was a combination of things that pushed him over. Tomorrow might have been a brighter day...

Laidley invited him to go down to the rooms to see how badly the team was hurting after the loss

yeah I was watching the game when it all happened, pretty sure there were two cases when they had a chat....

still, there had to be issues way before that. still alot of other people commit suicide and dont make the news.

Laidly will be feeling like crap, but ti has nothing to do with him. it was an invite after all.

For someone to jump in front of a train, I think they would have to be a few kegs short of a six pack prior to the event and seriously doubt that a footy team being so crap and a lively discussion with the coach could trigger such an act on its own.

I do not think the coach of North Melbourne should have any guilt or concern other than the fact this is yet another suicide and tragic loss of life. No more than any other member of the public.

I'm a Kangaroos fan, as well as all of my family. My Mum, ad and sister were at the game on Sunday and told me how sloppy and possession hungry the game was. I think the fan had every right to have a go at Laidly about the teams performance. For a team that has been up there in the top 8 for the last 10 or so years to come to this is worrying. Membership has been slow and as for the teams playing skills, 3rd bottom isnt the best place to be considering we are now 2 wins and 7 losses.

I haven't heard enough about the suicide happenings, but as mentioned above i doubt that it has anything to do with the confrontation with Laidly during the game on Sunday.

I know what im about to say may open up a large can of worms, but football today isnt the same as it was 5 years ago. Sam Newman has the right idea and mentions it every week on the Footy Show, teams need to kick long and direct to their key forwards, rather than playing kick-to-kick with their own teams mates in the backline gathering heaps of un-needed, un contested possessions.

A very sad loss for the family of this man... apparently Dean Laidley has done it before, inviting rank and file supporters down to the rooms to see what really happens, and he was doing exactly the same thing on Sunday... this must be effecting him greatly, it's very hard in a situation like this not to blame yourself...

You obviously haven't watched a Collingwood/West Coast/Bulldogs game this year, win or lose the game is always entertaining, brilliant direct footy... hard running and great tackling...

Yeah i agree with that fully Jack, Collingwood are going really well this year and i hope they finish the season off well. Im refering to teams such as the Kangaroos and Geelong who are the pro's at kick-to-kick.

Thats sad. Poor guy, and his family. I dont think it would have had anything to do with what Laidley said... although I can see why Laidley would feel bad nonetheless.

As for the Kangaroos and the footy, well at least Dean Laidley gets passionate about his club. After having Gary Ayres as coach of my beloved Crows for so long, we appreicate the passion Neil Craig has for the game... Ayres was an idiot. So I appreciate Laidley's passion. He shouldnt feel bad.

Yes his family would be feeling the loss, but lets not forget the train driver.

15 years as a station officer on the railways, I've seen more than enough. The majority go unreported.

I've heard suicides on the rail network typically go unreported so as not to encourage others. Is that true or is someone pulling my leg?

Spot on it has only come to my attention also in the last few weeks since he was kicked off the radio, I sat and watched the Kangaroos saints game and was so bored at times, But what was worse was Corey Jones has got the ball at half forward Hawkins wing side on the 50 meter line, He back tracks 10-15 meters when he is a left footer then passes the ball back to drew petrie who is on the wing alone but back a good 40 meters. You say that is what SAM Newman talks of to scared to loose possession. Why not bang it to the goal square where Thompson is running hot and he can take a mark is 1on1 or even 2on2 to hard now a days?.

The man had mental issues (So they said) and sometimes they can get the better of people, I don't think laidly was trying to tip the guy over the edge he just needed a let loose,
Me as a member i believe i have the right to vent my opinion as long as it's constructive and not abusive, But form what i seen and read into the man wasn't drunk and he really wasn't saying anything that was to be offencive or throw him out kind of stuff. And i believe the man was a member to.
He was ask to come down he was going to but was held back by one the the assistant coaches.
