A very good pick. Some say the last models of a model/design (EA-EL is basically one design with upgrades along the way) are generally better built as more of the issues are sorted out. It is generally accepted that the E series got better with each new model. A decent example would cost a little over $10k for an EL XR6, average ones under $10k. The EF-EL XR6 is what appears a mild tweak over the base model, but it takes it a step above the regular Falcons.
Having largely depreciated most of it's value away, it's a cheap way of getting into a car under 10 years and 200,000kms old and will have plenty of life left in it.

My best friend just bought a EF XR6 in good condition with sunroof and EL XR front for $7000. It's a nice car, I'd recommend one

Very good cars indeed and will show the V8 guys a thing or two. Prob go for the EL - a few aspects of the EF 6cylinder which are undesirable. Also likely to find ELs have less km's and are generally in better condition, having been brought onto the roads 2 years after the EF...

Just make sure you get the 16x7" Tickford (5 spoke) wheels unless you plan to go aftermarket. I turned up to inspect an EF at a car yard and it had the same alloys as the Falcon Classic in 15x6". The 6 spoke ones on the earlier ELs I find look pretty ordinary.
