I recommend the Izuzu Jackaroo (its not really a holden), my old man has had two of them, the current one is a 98 model, 5 speed manual 3.5L V6 on gas. Runs a charm, does pretty well off the road, but drives like a car on the road. It doesnt have a truck gearshift or a truck turning circle in it. Both of my old mans have run on gas and petrol, both have trecked to birdsville and back numerous times, towing trailers and the like, and had some fun in the rough stuff. The diesels i hear are pretty good too. The later shapes are the ones to get though, the current one has done in excess of 200,XXX and runs strong. Drove it to geelong from adelaide with a car trailer at easter, $100 there and back on gas, overtaking was no problem either, pity no one could maintain speed on the road though.

My brother is selling a 1987 60 series Landcruiser at the moment. Turbo diesel 5 speed. Goes just about anywhere. He's asking $10,000 for it, but he's negotiable. It has a different bullbar on it now than the photo shows - it has an ARB high mount winch bar on it instead.
Here's a pic of it at work: It's fully set up for offroad use, and also has a Recaro driver's seat in it.
