Just curious as to what dollars people are on per hour, what their proffesion or job is and how long they have been doing it. Enjoy what i do but would like to see if i am along way behind evryone else.
Started as a trainee design draftsperson which i completed my first year with a cert 3 in engineering tech, then went on to study engineering at uni externally part time which i have been doing three years now. So i have been in the job four years, started drafting, now pretty much only do electrical design, including marking up drawings for draftees and writing specifications and doing inspections. I'm on about $17.4 an hour and $537 in the hand a week of which i probably do about 3 hours unpaid overtime. Is this poor or normal?

I'm on $15/hour as a technical assistant for a fair sized garage company. Been doing it for 2 1/2 years. I've been tossing up the idea of a second casual job.

Bean-counter (accountant/student)
Just started a job as an accountant full time (also studying part-time) on $30k for the first three months then I think i get paid about $8000 more every year there after. Some of my friends are on $75K after only 5 yrs. Not a bad salary, the best thing is I enjoy it! Cheers Adam

If your job doesn't pay much it must not be very difficult! People get paid for their skill, expertise and responsibility. Take a lawyer for instance : Adam

I think there's already threads where people talk about their jobs and respective remuneration.
Difficult to draw a line... some people get paid too much for their work, others paid far too little. Some people take it easy and are happy to work for a little less... others go nuts in an attempt to get every cent that's up for grabs. As for me... i dont get paid by the hour. Im paid a fixed amount per annum. Im required to do 38 hours a week but do at least 50, more often that not 55.... so unlikely that it's going to be of any use for comparison purposes.

$26 per hour + $1.50 ph productivity allowance.
+$1.00-$4.50 ph site allowance depending on the project. Plus other allowances depending on training and type of task at the time. Overtime is x1.5 for first 2 hrs then x2 after that. $106.60 redundancy pw paid into a fund. work a 40hr standard week but with RDO's comes out to a 36hr week. This is on a construction EBA and needless to say,I am not happy about the prospect of AWA's coming into my industry.. and by the way Im a turd mechanic.. |

I've just started work as a trainee design draftsman for an engineering company...
Im still studying engineering at uni, so i'm only working 3 days a week casually @ 15/hr I could proberly do better if I looked around hard enough, but I'm happy where I am, and I'm still making more money than my previous job (Safeway) Once I've finished uni, I'll be going onto an anual salery... so i'll start chasing good money then ;)

I couldn't care less if someone earns more than me...what i do care about is people thinking there better than someone else based on material objects hence a possible outcome of this thread |

Seems like I am a bit better off than previous posters. Draftsman -4-5yrs experience unqualified, earning near $40 per hour but I have to take all expenses and super etc out of that myself. still over $20 in the hand per hour. I am part time and studying at uni too - all uni expenses are a tax write off so that helps.

call me a pig call me a jerk but thats what we're all like
