Inspired by simons thread i am interested in which Fez performs better...both have the same power and most probably the same weight (stock standard). i know the WQ has shorter gearing. just wanted to know what the power to wieght ratio is of them both and also how you would calculate it. im talking straight line not curves.!
Anyone able to help.. :alien2: :eclipsee_ TY

Mate you just answered your own question.
Power relative to weight. Both WP and WQ have the same power..... and as you said you think they weigh exactly the same. So power to weight of both cars is exactly the same. As you pointed out the WQ zetec has shorter gearing so it uses that power a little bit more efficiently, hence getting to 100 kmph faster. Stuff being in a WQ on the highway though, that would suck ***.

It's not so bad. Revs at a little under 3.5k, tbh it's nice to have the torque on tap there for the odd no-gearchange overtakes/hills/whatever Just a bit firm and jiggly on the rough stuff, that gets pretty tiresome. OT, really wondering if lowering it is the way to go...

put it this way.
Fiesta is a great learners car. you dont want TOO much power when you are starting out and lets admit it, 74 kw and 146nm is enough power to get you into some serious trouble. Fiesta is a great highway cruiser, fantastic handler, pretty decent on the love juice and has a decent amoutn of room and head room in the back ;) for some other kind of fun. I couldnt have asked for anything more out of this car. Now its time to move up a notch. Polo gti soon...

WP Vs WQ in a straight line? my money is on the WQ. It'd win by 0.1 of a second, i guess.
But then you gotta consider :- -how well the engines were worn-in. -the condition of each cars. -driver's consistency. |

Since i have taken the cat back off the car feels smoother and stronger. so i think i could improve on that, note i have k&n apollo too now, which makes a slight improvement. Thats with bp 98 ultimate and shell helix ultra 5w40, 4 thousand rpm clutch slip and a whole lot of chirping :

Going to have to convince someone in the family to downsize into a Fiesta so that I can have regular drives of it... :dr_Evil:

Ok lets see here, we know every Fiesta has the same 74kW 146Nm engine. Now to compare them on other merits...
WP & WQ LX Manual would be a tie. Both have 100% identical gearing, as follows... 1st: 3.15:1 2nd: 1.93:1 3rd: 1.28:1 4th: 0.95:1 5th: 0.76:1 Reverse: 3.62:1 Final Drive Ratio: 4.25:1 Both ride on 15 x 6" steelies with 195/50 R15 tyres. Both weigh 1029kg. 100% tie. WP & WQ autos is more of the same story, same tyres as above, both weigh 1050kg and here are their identical gears... 1st: 2.88:1 2nd: 1.57:1 3rd: 1.00:1 4th: 0.70:1 Reverse: 2.30:1 Final Drive Ratio: 4.27:1 Now lets see some Zetecs... This is where it gets interesting, WP Zetec manual has exactly the same manual gears as the WP LX manual. WQ's are as follows... 1st: 3.58:1 2nd: 2.04:1 3rd: 1.41:1 4th: 1.11:1 5th: 0.88:1 Reverse: 3.62:1 Final Drive Ratio: 4.06:1 Both cars weigh 1038kg. The WP Zetec manual is on 195/50 R15s on 15" alloys from the factory, while the WQ has the 195/45 R16s with 16" wheels (optional on WP). A 195/50 R15 = 22.68 inches tall. 195/45 R16 = 22.9 inches tall. Now with that gearing and that tyre height... lets look at a theoretic top speed in gears at the 6800rpm limiters they both share... WP Zetec 1st = 34.29mph (54.82km/h) 2nd = 55.96mph (89.54km/h) 3rd = 84.38mph (135km/h) 4th = 113.68mph (181.89km/h) 5th = 142.11mph (227.38km/h) WQ Zetec 1st = 31.89mph (51.02km/h) 2nd = 55.96mph (89.54km/h) 3rd = 80.96mph (129.54km/h) 4th = 102.84mph (164.54km/h) 5th = 129.72mph (207.55km/h) Now before anyone goes crazy, remember, this is just theory, not 100% accurate, but a guideline. So from this its pretty simple to determine that to hit 100km/h both cars need to be in third, and both second gears top out at the same speed. So that would be a pretty much tie to 100km/h then. Now both cars are going to trap the 1/4 mile in the 150-160km/h region. Which will require them both to be in 4th. The WQ's tighter 4th gear will probably give it a slight edge here. If you were to race the standing kilometre the WQ would lose, it would get overtaken by the WP at a point in the race. Either that or a tie. Both WP & WQ Zetec auto are identical gearing. How would a WP vs WQ race go? It depends on the driver 100%, the gearing difference is not great enough to make a big impact on the race, and in a short burst race they'd be a tie.

Steffo you forgot about suspension. The WQ have harder suspension which will allow it put its power to the ground better off the line. But give the WP some better tyres and the advantage is gone. Awesome write up though
I very highly doubt a fiesta will go 100mph down the 1/4mile though. I mean the LS focus got 85mph. In RL it would be too close to call, would come down the driver skill, tyres and the strenght of the wind acting on each car
