I think what people object to, is being jerked around. Ford has made an announcement, filled with drivel, for the express purpose of manipulating its loyal fans. They obviously KNOW what they are going to do with the GT next year, so why not tell us?
I don’t EXPECT Ford to invest big bickies revamping the GT. I might have liked a FH, but if the FG is the last of GT’s, then so be it. So why not just let fans get in and order now, at 2013 prices, and Ford can build to order. If people want the premium brakes they can order it, if they want an GT-P, they can order it.

And since they have “announced” the return of the XR8, why not tell us what will be in it?
Naturally somebody who forks out $90k for a 2014 FG GT, will be justifiably ****ed if the FH XR8 comes out with the same level of kit, in the updated body, at a fraction of the cost.
Or if the XR8 will simply be a poverty pack XT with loud seats, or it will be a GT replacement AT GT PRICES, maybe I won’t wait.

Ford are deliberately keeping people in the dark to encourage a feeding frenzy on the 2013 & 2014 FPV’s.

Ok, so Falcon wasn’t making money and has to end, along with Australian production. Is it so bad to ask that Ford actually spare a thought for their legions of loyal fans? And maybe say “thanks for buying our Falcons for the last 50+ years.” Instead of just seeing this as one last chance to gouge our wallets?
Post of the day !! No question Ford are endeavouring to extract maximum "effect" from their remaining loyal enthusiasts.

Why would you buy an XR8 when a GT has all the nostalgia and history behind it anyways?

Ford is playing with GT buyer's heads.

It's clear that Ford will have the XR8 buyer covered post 2014 but is deliberately being coy about GT.
Think about it, tell everyone now that there will be an FH GT and you destroy the current GT's market.

Tell people that this is the last chance for a GT or GT special and watch them line up.

An then, you watch the rotten buggers relent and do a limited run FH GT, squeezing the juice one more time.

A modern day plastic GT has no nostalgia to it at all. It bears no resemblence to the original GTs.

It may make owners feel all warm and fuzzy, but that's about it.

I couldn't care less, I can't imagine buying another one anyway unless it was some hugely improved new model. FG MK II GT-E makes me happy indeed, and glad few bought them and they don't make them any more, makes mine feel a little more special, to me. And I couldn't give two flying proverbials what anyone else thinks anyway.

For **** sake the FH GT will need to have 'auto pilot' and 'vertical lift off' if they want me to buy one......Other than that.....Meh!

Soooo do you think that in 1971 everyone was saying wow the new GT's have no heritage like the XR GT, I'm not buying one because they are just a falcon with a sticker kit and shaker.. Hmmm unless you have a time machine or can predict the future who knows what could happen in twenty years.. The kids today will remember today's GT's and Fpvs as the muscle cars of there era.

Don't know about that really... From XY GT / E49 days cars just got slower and slower really, they didn't get remotely quick again until VN Group A onwards.... In five years time virtually every half decent non cheap crap 2 litre car will probably be quicker than today's GT let alone performance cars.

Got a ba typhoon(worked- manual, 378rwkw) and a stock 2009 f6 auto. I love both these cars! But I want a supercharged v8 last gt!

Test drove a manual gt today, then an auto gt. had a ball as it was a country dealer so open roads and an open minded sales rep really allowed the cars to shine. Autos are faster but my god I just loved driving that manual. What do I do.

Buy the gt with all options- 90k plus 11 for kpm 500kit with warranty ( no other mods as last gt will be basicall rspec again) and sadly sell the fg f6

Or no gt but spend 11k on f6 mods and as auto, have a 10 second car, still an fg but not a gt.
in both cases I still have a manual high performance typhoon

It's a big cost to go the final gt (and its a financial stretch for me)!with no major body or tech changes. I'm recognise im lucky to be in this position with these awesome cars, but would love your ideas and feedback

i,ve had both. i like my f6 personally . it even has less power than my 335 had.its just felt bit heavy upfront too me .
its a personal thing really.
loved how after spiro tuned the 335 it just climbed and climbed but felt like you were just cruising but it was really halling ***.

The engines weigh basically the same, so not sure how you could claim the V8 feels heavier upfront.

If anything the 6 cyl should feel heavier as more of its weight is further forward than the 8.

I love how the old school car enthusiasts refer to the modern cars as plastic!! Its funny because I didn't think plastic could rust!!!

I agree with you to a degree but in saying that the modern GT's are a lot better car then the older GT's. although I reckon the old GT's look better. you get more for your money with a newer GT then your old GT, wether I would pay $95,000 plus for a XW/XY GT is very questionable when I can get more from buying a new FG GT335. the FPV GT isn't exactly at the nostalgia stage yet, in a few years time they will be. its possible they will fetch money like the older ones did in a few years time. remember 20 years ago?? people said the XA-XC series where ****, look at them now

When have I said that the modern GT is not kick ***?

Read my post in the context that it was a reply.

If I'm bagging the GT, then the initial post was bagging the XR8. I was replying to the post that said why would anybody buy an XR8 over a modern GT based on nostalgia. The modern day GT does NOT have nostalgia. Having said that, it is the best Australian car going around and a fantastic car to boot.

Are you taking a shot from the cheap seats by inferring the XR8 won't be kick ***?

My reply was not bagging the modern GT. Sensitive people around here.

Have a look at my sig. I love plastic Fords too! My reply was in the context of the initial post that asked why anybody would buy an XR8 over the GT when the GT has all the nostalgia. It does not. The GT is fantastic. So is the XR8.

I was working in a Ford dealership at the time when the BA GT was first released. Let me tell you a lot of old school GT owners where so excited to hear that ford where bringing back the two classic letters "GT". When we got our first one it was like a circus everyone was coming into look at it and drool admire and dream.. What I'm saying is there is a lot of people who love these cars and regardless of the falcon and the iconic GT coming to an end they will always be desirable.. I own a BF pursuit I was looking at a BF XR8 when for a few grand more I was able to get a nice FPV ute. I like the XR series cars but the opportunity to own an FPV was to good to pass up.

So your primary concern when buying a car is what you think other people (who are generally ignorant) think or rate its street credibility - regardless of its real world performance ??? Thats very sad.

That super-charged V8 is hardly just a “sticker kit.”

In fact I would argue that the current GT is a reasonable tribute to the original.
Keep in mind that the original GT was not a HO. It was HP V8 dropped into a Falcon sedan.

Yes the current offering is rather expensive, but considering the bespoke engine and the modern cost of building a car in Australia, it’s not bad.

Look, to each their own. I never pay more than $20 for an item of clothing, I haven’t bought a pair of shoes in the last 10 years, I wear safety glasses as sunnies, and wash my hear with whatever was on special in a huge bootel. I wouldn’t know fashion if it bit me in the ****. Others spend thousands a year on “wardrobe,” it’s a personal choice.
So too, some see cars as merely transportation, others want the latest gee-whiz tech from whoever is offering it, and some (like me) appreciate the Falcon for what it is, and what it represents.
I will be getting a GT, and I will be keeping it. I understand that even new it’s not up to the techo-standard of a similarly priced European (or even Toyota,) and I don’t care. I'm sure in 10 years’ time many people will be asking me why I'm still driving “that old thing” and I still won’t care. When I shuffle off, if my son doesn’t want a 20 year old Falcon, they can bury me in it.

Its amazing the way the mind affects subjective perceptions - which are falsly (erroniously) viewed as objective - when one has firm preconcieved ideas.

The 8 definitely feels more floaty at the front in pitch and roll. Where the weight is matters. The 8 has these huge cylinder heads way out from the centre line up high and the engine is very wide. I do think the V8 bonnet bulge accentuates the feeling of it rolling all over the place, but there is no doubt the 8 is not as settled at the front as the 6. Absolutely no question.

The 8 has these huge cylinder heads way out from the centre line and the engine is very wide. I do think the V8 bonnet bulge accentuates the feeling of it rolling all over the place, but there is no doubt the 8 is not as settled at the front as the 6. Absolutely no question.[/QUOTE
spot on, said perfectly

Well after really struggling to get my head around this last week I think i've come full circle with this bloody thing, (yes i'm feeling dizzy in case anyone wants to know).

Is a SC XR8 with a new shape and some new tech that's competitivly priced against a Holdon SS-V really such a bad thing after all ?

Effectivly a competitivly priced D.I.Y. project base, just add decent brakes, shocks and antiroll bars and Bob's your Uncle.

That's more like it. All true love relationships have highs and lows. With a falcon v8 it's easy to have counciling, wait a while to cool off, then take it for a drive and all is forgiven: have a level headed discussion with your Falcon you will realise that's it's not happy about the situation either, but it's going to stick this out to the end because that's the class act that it is
