G'day,
escapee from http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/index.php, well, not quite, guess that I'll still be calling in there from time to time. Anyone want a project ? Fuego for sale...... Well, back with a furd, last one I owned was a '53 cussy, sv v8, 12mpg 'n all, back when petrol was 4 bob a gallon - that's about 9 cents a litre for all you young ones. But, to put it all into perspective, to fill the tank on the cussy it cost me about £2/10/-, fantastic eh, however, I was getting about £12 a week, ouch.... Interesting, it was about the same price for an LP record [CD] back then as well. Current ride, BA tray, results from looking at little trays [moving to the sticks] after looking at all the standard offerings I was unimpressed, 'till I chanced upon the falcon office, no choice at all, wow Why sit on a stack of bricks.... Now, haven't the furd v8's improved from the '50s, mmmmm.... love it...... Back to the future ! cheers, Bob |

Hi Thorny Bob, I'm a newby as well, to the forum. My Dad bought a '53 Customline, in 1964, and we kids, thought we were rich. Being a Windsor V8 bloke, I've always wondered what the S/V fuel economy was like, and 12mpg, is not great. Why so thirsty?

Hi all, joined a few days ago and wished I'd done it along time ago, the info on this forum is awesome and no doubt saving thousands of hours pulling off things you don't need to or breaking clips you can't see. I currently have in my shed a BA XR8 blown by The guys at Herrod that has been neglected while I have been refreshing my cleveland in a 1970 cougar, still having way to much fun with the new build but I will get to the XR now and will be needing some advice if I can get it. G'day
I joined recently. Purchased an xr6 ef wagon. Has a few issues, ecu error codes that the mechanic could not clear. Economy light flashing intermittently. Last Ford was xt 68 fairmont. Sadly missed as ex wife nagged me to sell. Should have sold her... Anyone have idea how to solve these ef issues? As I don't want to chase shadows. computer,ecu? cheers |

Hi XR6oceans.
Do you know if the issue is the ecu, or could it be that the ecu is working perfectly and storing the same codes again each time the car is started? If the ecu is fine, I'm thinking that the code is in response to an issue so fixing the issue is the solution to the problem. Did your mechanic tell you which codes are stored and what they mean ?? (you could try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes then check if anything is different but get the codes first and find out what they mean) Cheers. |

A flashing economy light means your transmission is overheating (and going into limp home mode). Get it looked at quick. Your mechanic should have known this. Tted |

Well answered Tted. Now the question that XR6oceans will need to ask is 'does it mean a new transmission is required (as most mechanics are likely to suggest) or is it just a sensor which is likely about $1,500.00 cheaper ????'
I have a transmission issue atm with a 94 GT 6 cyl auto Probe. Seems the options are endless for the problem. If you'd like to give an opinion, best discussion about it so far is under http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...94#post4899394 . (and thanks if you happen to) |

Tted , the flashing economy light was only in the morning from start up before any heat in engine or AUTO box. then stops 5 to 10 ks down road.
Ford thinking, The transmission guy is a mates dad and he changed the transmission sensor. he also pulled the codes. they came up ecu (should have written codes down) fuel something open, battery low. By the time I got to the him the flashing had stopped and after the sensor was changed he could not fault the transmission. Then next morning, flashing again. but for only 3 minutes or so. When it is cold and goes into 4th while economy flashes, sounds like a manual in to high a gear???( limp mode only allows 3rd?) Thanks so much for the responses. |

Names Andrew, mechanic by trade. Worked on everything from small outboards to mine equipment and everything I between, but these days I'm in a managing roll. Iv had a couple of El,s one a white s pack with a tick ford six and a 5l fairmont ghia that I stroked. I have a 78 XC fair not that I will soon start the restoration process as it a family air loom. Just got a 1997 courier 2wd as a cheap ute for weekend work and the head gasket went a week later. Looking for a Wksp manual to get some torque specs from if anyone knows where do download. And I'll seek expertise on tech info and where to source the rarer parts on the XC as I start moving forward on the resto. Cheers |

Hi, BurgFG here! Have just picked myself up a nice FG XR6T Ute with Lux pack, after owning a couple of Blackwood Falcons(an XE and XF) when I was younger. Have mostly had Holden Commodores as I worked as a Mechanic at a dealer for most of my time in the trade. Hope to learn a few tricks from the people who actually own and drive Falcons as well!

Quite right, limp mode is 3rd gear only, problem is not transmission. Sounds like a bad connection or something sticking. I have no further suggestions. Tted |

Having been prompted for a while now to introduce myself, I guess it’s about time I did so.
I live in Murray Bridge (SA) and have been a Ford fan ever since I started being interested in cars, and being an old bugger, that’s a fair while. My first car was a Mk I Zephyr, which I did not want, but my father insisted I buy it. I wanted a Customline, but that was too powerful for an inexperienced driver (so Dad said and that was when kids did as we were told!). I found the Zephyr had quite sufficient power to tip it upside down, actually it went quite well for what it was. By the time I fixed it up, Dad gave up, so I bought a 1957 Customline, a fantastic car. I traded it in 1972 on a brand new XA Fairmont, 351 four speed, also a fantastic car but I often wished it had been auto, as it was almost impossible, due to the dual plate clutch, to drive really smoothly. I traded it in 1976 on a 4X4 Nissan and have owned four wheel drives ever since. However, the Patrol was not really much good on the open road, so as I was doing a lot of miles back and forth to Keith where I worked, I bought another Customline. This was not really a success, as it was a side valve and a bit past it by then. The XA could do the 100 miles to Keith in an hour, the Customline certainly could not!!! So I bought a second hand XB Fairmont two door, 302 auto. Another great car, but that was my last Ford for many years, except for the Laser my wife had when we married. My main interest has been in a 1929 DA Dodge, which I have been restoring forever. I eventually decided I should get something OLD that I could actually drive, so I bought a 1929 Essex. That eventually needed some work, so I sold it and bought a 1965 Dodge Phoenix, another lovely old car. I loved Fords, Chrysler products were OK, but GM products were rubbish. I did actually own a Commodore for a while, that just PROVED to me they were rubbish. I then bought and restored a Reliant Scimitar. At least it had a Ford engine (V6 Essex). But earlier this year, after looking for some time, I bought an XB Fairmont, 302 auto. A lovely original car needing very little doing to it (but more that I first thought, of course). But there is always things that I need to know, so I joined this forum. So briefly, that’s who I am. Evening all,
My name's Adam, signed up recently though often frequented the forums for info in the past, but using it daily at the moment. Currently own an 1975 XB GS wagon as my daily, wanted an XB since I was 8 or 9, nearly 20 years later finally got one, lol. Also have a 78 TE Corty which was my first 'proper' car, still in 2 minds as to sell or keep. Always looking for new/better condition parts for the cars. I suppose while I'm here I might ask the opinion of price on a little run around...1980 Escort 4dr Ghia, 2.0 4spd, clean and tidy, bit of rust, past respray, vg condition...$3,000? Also, got a bit of rust repair to do on an XB Fairmont, tail gate, bottom of front quarters, usual sh!7... Easy enough job? Some needs to be cut out - never done it before Anyway, cheers for reading. Looking forward to talking with any and all!

Hi all, just my introduction. BA xr8 ute. I've been a regular scavenger of second hand advice on here for years but made the plunge and joined as a head gaskets just gone on the xr8 and I need your technical files .
Also got a sad old nc2 fairlane sitting out the back that a mate dented up on me, It's got a good 5l windsor, FMX (I think??) and LSD in it if anyone's looking for parts. Dan |
